High School/College Age Minister
Parkcrest Christian Church
Long Beach, California, United States
Date Posted: 01/27/2011
Categories: College Pastor - Youth Pastor
Church Size: 2001 to 2500
Job Type: Full-Time
Parkcrest Christian Church is a 59 year old, non-denominational church in Long Beach, CA. The church has a weekly attendance of 2300. We are a multi-site church with 3 campuses and 3 venues at one campus along with a service in Spanish.
Long Beach is considered by many to be the most diverse city in the United States -ethnically and socio-economically. Demographics show that the city is approximately 60% Hispanic. This is an incredible challenge, but also a great opportunity.
Parkcrest is passionate about leading our community to live fully by following Jesus. We are passionate about evangelism and people learning how to fully surrender their lives to Jesus. We are intentional about being the church outside our walls by serving our community and the world, specifically desiring for the Kingdom to take root in a significant way here in Long Beach.
The Necessary Stuff:
The job entails leading the High School and College age Ministries.
-Experience in a larger church (1,000+)
-Relational with students and adults
-Ability to think strategically
-Read any of the other job descriptions on here...they're all saying about the same thing...
You're Not Going to Want to Apply If:
-You want to do student ministry the way it's always been done and just like what other churches are doing. If you're always going to be saying, "well, you know what they're doing at (fill-in-the-blank of your favorite church this week)"
-You won't get your hands dirty and empower volunteers and think that you constantly need to hire staff for ministry to be effective.
-You can't work for a Lead Pastor who's in his early 30's, doesn't completely know how to lead this church and is having to trust and depend on God to do something big.
-You want to create a student ministry that does it's own thing completely cut off from the philosophy and direction of the rest of the church.
-You just like putting on a big show for students and are really good at just drawing a crowd.
-Student Ministry is okay for now, but you only see it as a stepping stone to your next ministry job.
-You can't help to create a multicultural, diverse church. You're pretty good at reaching people who are like you, and are comfortable with that.
-You have a hard time having honest conversations, and you're feelings will get hurt if you're challenged or your idea doesn't get implemented.
-You don't recognize high school and college age students as individuals who have the abilities necessary to change the world, and you just want to play games and hang-out seeing no need to challenge them to be Kingdom Workers now.
Honestly, we think that this is an incredible opportunity to work in a great and exciting city, with a church that's been doing it's best to further the Kingdom, and in a situation that requires a bit of risk and faith.
If that excites you, we'd love to hear from you! Please send a resume and links to any teachings that we can download or listen to online to the email below.
