Job Description:
Purpose of the Job

The Senior Director of Finance & Accounting has primary responsibility for the financial operations of the church including: (1) development and implementation of systems, policies and procedures, and processes to ensure accurate and timely completion of Grace accounting functions including A/P, Payroll, and Contributions, as well as effective financial reporting; (2) budgeting and cash management; (3) audits; (4) banking relationships and loan negotiations; (5) insurances and other activities to safeguard the assets of the church. This position is responsible for aligning his/her life and Finance & Accounting operations to Grace values, and for empowering staff to serve ministry areas well.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Accounting Management
Responsible for the integrity of the church’s financial statements
Supervise Accounting staff including coaching, development, shepherding and performance appraisal
Maintain oversight of Accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Contributions, Payroll
Oversee the generation of timely and accurate financial statements and other end of month accounting reports
Oversee timely account reconciliations
Ensure quality compliance with GAAP
Implement and maintain effective internal control structure
Oversee year-end closing processes and annual audit

Church Management
Ensure timely reporting regarding financial performance to various audiences, including senior management
Analyze trends in income and expenses
Develop and monitor effective financial and non-financial metrics
Support senior leadership decisions with financial perspective and analysis
Conduct financial impact analysis of impending decisions
Provide analysis and recommendations for operating cost management

Planning and Control
Development of the annual budget and periodic forecasts, working with ministry leaders
Capital planning and expenditure analysis and control
Oversee cash forecasting and cash management, including proper controls over cash flows

Organizational Development
Help to create an environment of sound and biblical financial stewardship among the senior management teams including providing assistance in the interpretation of relevant and accurate financial reports
Create environment within the Finance & Accounting Team that seeks to serve and support all other ministries

Insurance Administration
Administer liability and property insurances, including coverage selection, claim management and risk management analysis
Support Sr. Director of Human Resources with financial analysis and perspective regarding health insurance and other employee benefits

Audit and Evaluation
Coordinate with external auditing firm to annually audit financial statements
Regularly evaluate and document accounting processes and procedures.
Responsible to the Pastor of Administration and, ultimately, to the Financial Oversight Team and the Governing Board for audit-related matters

Unqualified and demonstrated commitment to Grace’s vision, mission and values
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field
10+ years of progressively responsible finance and accounting experience, with a hands-on financial controller highly preferred, who can work independently and make decisions
Finance and accounting experience in a non-profit organization is highly desirable, especially knowledge of ever-increasing implications of audit requirements stemming from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
Proven experience in the following areas of skill:
General Ledger Accounting
A/P, Payroll, Contributions
GAAP accounting
Computer literate accounting software and PC office software
Ability to lead and shepherd groups and teams
Detail oriented and highly organized
Proven ability to work and contribute in a team environment
Solid written and verbal skills a must
Demonstrated ability to learn rapidly and be a life-long learner
Ability to define a vision for the Finance and Accounting Team, and to adapt that vision to future requirements and capability needs
