Job Description:
Currently Spring Valley Community Church located in Allendale, Michigan is looking to fill the position for DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP.

The Director of Children’s Discipleship shall be responsible for overseeing the ministry for children who are infants through 5th grade.

I.) General Areas of Responsibility
a. Implement with the Children’s Ministry Team the goals, vision and values of Children’s Ministries (discipleship, missions, outreach, relationships)
b. Oversee children’s programming and events throughout the year, including weekly gatherings and summer programs
c. Evaluate, select, secure, and if necessary, write curriculum and other resources.
d. Recruit and equip volunteer leaders to serve in the Children’s Ministry
e. Design and administer a secure environment that includes a child protection policy, check in/out procedures, and criminal record and sexual offender checks on volunteers
f. Provide pastoral care to children and their families who are ill or otherwise struggling—for example, hospital visits, care calls, and encouragement
g. Communicate and disseminate information about Children’s Ministries to families (i.e., create documents, make and distribute copies, write and send emails, etc.)
h. Empower, equip and encourage parents to be the spiritual leaders to their children
i. Manage the funds that have been allocated to the children’s ministry

II.) Essential Characteristics
a. A vital relationship with Jesus Christ, which is clearly demonstrated in lifestyle, commitment to prayer, and Biblical knowledge
b. A love and understanding of people of all ages
c. An ability to function as part of a team, offering and accepting advice and undergoing evaluations
d. Effective written and verbal skills
e. Commitment to “equipping the saints for the work of the ministry”
f. A willingness to creatively and imaginatively complete the tasks outlined in this profile
g. Understanding of and commitment to the values and vision of SVCC

III.) Working Conditions
a. Ability to provide own transportation to perform principle responsibilities
b. Physical, mental and sensory requirements:
i. Physical mobility: sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, lifting/holding/carrying objects up to 15 pounds
ii. Mental effort: reading, writing, calculating, analyzing, visualizing
iii. Sensory requirements: ability to read printed material and information on a PC; ability to communicate and respond to others in person and over the phone
iv. Ability to handle varying levels of stress
c. Proficiency in basic computer skills

IV.) Accountability
The Director of Children’s Discipleship will be accountable to the Leadership Team through the Lead Pastor.

V.) Adaptability
