The Community Team Lead is charged with the leadership, oversight, and management of six departments that make up the Community Team at UPC: Children and Family, Youth, University, Young Adults, Community/Discipleship, and Congregational Care.
The Community Team Lead is a member of the church executive leadership team (which includes this position, the Outreach Lead, Operations Lead, and Worship Lead) and along with those other leads, s/he reports directly to UPC’s Senior Pastor.
To the Community Team:
Facilitate and guide the mission, strategy, and budget of the entire Community Team
Lead, mentor, and support members of the Community Team
Champion small groups as the church’s primary expression of community formation and outreach
Grow participation and leadership among laity
Facilitate collaboration among departments
Create and encourage new visions for ministry
Collaborate with Community Team department heads to set and monitor personal and departmental goals, and evaluate performance in concert with the annual review process
Work with staff to ensure effective systems and organizational structure
To the UPC Executive Leadership:
Participate in strategic and long-term planning
Develop a strategy for discipling the congregation at all ages and all levels, working together to ensure a unified approach among departments
Streamline and support overall mission of congregation
Represent and champion needs of Community Team departments to executive leadership
The Community Team Lead will also participate in worship services and be visible to the church congregation at large.
Executive management experience as a leader of a large and diverse staff
Ability to successfully manage both paid staff and laity
Experience in non-profit sector helpful
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
Mature personal faith
Kindness, boldness, humility, and a good sense of humor
Effectiveness in collaboration
Uses commonalities to build bridges
Adept at conflict management and resolution
Willing and engaged listener
Values diversity of experiences and perspectives
