Job Description:
Seneca Creek Student Ministry Pastor Ad

Seneca Creek is a 21 year old non-denominational church of 700 members with a passion to ignite a movement of the gospel that will transform the world with the hope of Christ. We are currently searching for an exceptional, full-time student ministry pastor. We serve a multi-cultural community in the fast-paced suburbs of Washington DC. We are an externally focused church that is shifting gears into a missional congregation. While our theology is orthodox, our methods are not. We are a church without walls, and believe that innovation and failure form the bridge to the future.

Candidates must be engaging, confident, culturally relevant, and able to effectively reach out to a multi-cultural congregation. Candidates should be comfortable with the freedom to fail, independent enough to handle significant breathing room; must possess the ability to see the potential in students and not be afraid to challenge them to reach that potential.

The Seneca Creek Student Ministry is not a youth group, and is ministry-driven, not program-driven. Our student ministry pastor will help our youth to create and initiate ministries, not function as a babysitter. It is critical that candidates have appropriate years of experience to drive a ministry; developing student leadership potential must be a major focus, and continually challenging our students to grow is a key aspect of this ministry. Ministry is student-led with strong volunteer support; candidates must be relationally wired to connect regularly and meaningfully on a personal level with students and volunteers. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, able to ‘brand’ the ministry and define its path, ensuring all initiatives fit in to the overall ministry strategy.
Seneca Creek allows its student ministry pastor wide latitude to innovate and expects that person to try things that today’s students will be responsive to. We intentionally provide the student pastor freedom to pursue student ministry without being micromanaged. The ideal candidate will develop continuity and connection in our student programs, developing leaders to oversee other student ministry teams.

Seneca Creek believes in holistic ministry, where all members of the ministry staff recognize and value the importance of being integrated in the overall vision of the church, so candidates should expect to regularly and effectively participate on the ministry team. Ministry team members regularly engage in meetings and dialogue about overall church direction and function as bridge-builders to other ministries, both in and outside the church.

We are looking for a leader with the experience to integrate both middle and high school ministries, and eventually help us develop a college-age ministry, while overseeing multiple staff reproduced from effective disciple-making in the middle and high-school ministries. Additionally, we are committed to partnering between Children’s Ministry and Student Ministry, to increase our effectiveness in helping young people follow Jesus and impact their world for him.

• Ability to be culturally relevant and contextualize the gospel for today’s post-modern culture.
• Must be able to think outside of church circles to reach out to non-Christians; to think of and effectively implement new ways to reach the unchurched.
• Must be able to see beyond the internal student ministry to develop student and other volunteer leaders to take the ministry out into the community.
• Must be a strategic thinker able to hold the focus of the ministry to the desired path.
• Ability to delegate effectively to students and volunteer leaders to keep ministry moving toward established goals.
• Must have strong administrative skills, interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.

Extremely desirable characteristics include:
• Culturally diverse candidates.
• Ability to effectively connect with a multi-cultural congregation.
• Understanding of and experience with a diverse congregation in an urban setting.
• Experience on a multi-cultural staff.
