Senior High and College Discipleship Pastor
Riverwood Community Chapel

Senior High Discipleship: Plan and implement the overall vision for a youth ministry that will holistically minister to teens and their families at Riverwood Community Chapel by:

· Preparing a discipleship plan for Sunday morning Youth Bible Fellowship. This class currently meets at 9:00am. Attendance varies between 30 – 50 students:
o Teach this hour each Sunday or arrange alternate staff or volunteer leadership.
o Engage these students with exciting teaching styles and activities inside and outside of the classroom to encourage community.

· Encourage Senior High students to become involved in Youth Life Groups:
o Recruit adult volunteers to lead these Life Groups
o Determine curriculum to be used by Life Groups

· Plan and lead annual events:
o Summer Missions Trips
o Retreats (Historically a January ski trip with biblical teaching theme throughout the weekend, but not limited to this venue)

· Counsel teenagers and/or their families:
o Determine ways to make transitions from Junior High to High School and High School to College or vocations smooth and allowing for continued spiritual growth
o Handle the hard cases/family situation as they arise
o Be available to Riverwood students and their extended connections when tragedies occur (e.g., be available to local schools when suicides, accidents, etc. cause the student body to need counselors)

College Discipleship: Plan and oversee the overall vision for a college ministry that will holistically minister to college students at Riverwood Community Chapel by:

· Creating and implementing a discipleship plan with special emphasis on emgaging students at Kent State University (due to the proximity of the campus) as well as Akron University and other local college students.

· Innovative ideas to improve the ministry (e.g., transporting college students so they can get to Riverwood events would be welcome additions to our current ministry)

· Discipling the college students of Riverwood families who attend colleges/universities outside of our local area would be an exciting addition to our college ministries. This could include, but not be limited to finding ways to disciple these students electronically while they are on campus and face to face when they are at home on breaks and summers

· Develop a strategy to help these students make healthy transitions into their career choices as well as transitions into Riverwood’s Young Professionals group if their life plans keep them local to the Riverwood body.

Riverwood Staff Pastor: There will be additional duties associated with this position that fall outside of the specific discipleship areas you will overseen. These duties will include, but not be limited to:

· attend all staff and pastoral staff meeting
· attend all staff prayer
· be available for worship service needs (lead prayer, serve communion, perform baptisms, etc.)
· distribute food bags and pray with walk-ins as scheduled (typically one day per week)
· be available to counsel/listen to walk-ins with counseling concerns
· be available to visit congregation members in the hospital on a rotating schedule
· take 24 hour care calls one week per month
· be present at all all-church events as outlined by the Lead Pastor
· provide ministry publications as needed
· communicate and work with other Riverwood staff members and boards as needed for both the overall effectiveness of your personal ministry responsibilities and the overall Riverwood ministry and facility needs

Candidate Profile:

· Maturity in both faith and practice
· Bachelor’s Degree in biblical studies or an equivalent combination of education and experience
· Strong communication and writing skills
· Professional appearance and demeanor
· Team player with leadership and teaching skills
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail
· Teachable attitude and spirit
· Relational with students and adults/ parents
· Demonstrates leadership
· Possesses a relentless desire to find new ways to reach youth for the Gospel and see them mentored, discipled and challenged
