Director of Youth Ministry and Christian Formation
Position Description:
This position is primarily focused on youth ministry. Direct the youth program and invite youth into a deeper spiritual presence with Christ. Provide a safe, caring and secure environment for youth. Through Christian education, minister to and draw into our church community individuals from within and beyond the congregation. Lead and supervise all aspects of the Christian Education (CE) program for MCPC.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Build and foster nurturing and trusting relationships with youth as the youth director.
2. Plan and implement church and outreach activities with youth and sponsors.
3. Plan, direct and lead youth retreats and mission efforts.
4. Create and implement youth worship opportunities.
5. Teach in the church school program for fifth through twelfth grades in coordination with the Christian Education Ministry Team (CEMT).
6. Team with the Pastor to lead the middle school confirmation class.
7. Be responsible for and manage all aspects of enlisting and training sponsors and teachers, including the Sexual Misconduct Program.
8. Teach the Christian faith through emphasis on scripture and PC(USA) creeds in the reformed tradition.
9. Equip members and friends to reach out to others in our community.
10. Oversee nursery operations.
11. Lead and supervise CE for school-age children, including Sunday school, children’s church and Vacation Bible School.
12. Lead and facilitate CE for adults including family ministry for the congregation.
Secondary Responsibilities:
1. Plan and communicate an annual calendar of CE events.
2. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Pastor/Head of Staff.
Relationships:
1. Accountable to the Pastor as Head of Staff and to the Session.
2. Work with ministry teams, in particular the Christian Education Ministry Team, staff, and Presbyterian Church (USA) youth ministries via the Pueblo Presbytery.
3. Interact with other youth directors in the Tri-Lakes area.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree and experience in education or youth ministry preferred.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Ability to lead graciously as a servant, with self-direction and initiative.
2. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to and cooperate with all staff and the congregation as a member of a team.
3. Possess strong communication, organizational problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
4. Exhibit a strong Christian faith, an excellent work ethic and integrity and ability to lead by example.
Work Schedule:
Salaried and exempt
The 40 hour work-week schedule is to be approved by the Pastor and coordinated with the Personnel Ministry Team.
Compensation:
1. MCPC will provide health insurance or the funds for the individual to purchase health insurance as part of the compensation package.
2. Established by and reviewed annually or as needed by the Session.
3. No overtime pay is associated with this salaried and exempt position.
4. Camp attendance, mission trips, retreats and similar activities are not recompensed over and above the normal weekly hours. “Overtime and compensatory time off” are not allowed for salaried and exempt employees.
Vacation and Holidays:
1. Vacation, holidays and sick time will be earned per the MCPC Employee Guidebook or the employment letter.
2. Time off is to be approved by the Pastor, coordinated with the Personnel Ministry Team and communicated to the Christian Education Ministry Team Elders.
