The Community Missions Director must fulfill his or her duties with excellence and ministry appropriateness. This person is to act as a missionary to our neighborhood: responsible for overseeing, developing, and advancing the ministries of First Christian Church beyond our doors. The Director is expected to make significant connections with families (especially children) in the church’s neighborhood and to focus on reaching un-churched and non-Christians. They will become known as a liaison between First Christian Church and our neighboring community. A mission mindset and compassion for our neighbors are required. The director must seek to impact our neighborhood for Christ, through a variety of activities, events, and innovative interaction.
The person filling the position at First Christian Church will be a vital part of the staff and leadership team, using innovative and intentional ministry to reach children and adults in the church neighborhood. A professional approach and spiritual attitude are expected at all times.
This individual will have accepted Christ as the leader and forgiver or his or her life. The candidate must have ministry experience and a minimum of a baccalaureate degree. Experience and skills in interacting with people of varied life and spiritual backgrounds is required.
He or she must be able to work in a multi-staff setting with other ministry professionals maintaining interpersonal and relational skills. He or she must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team to accomplish ministry goals. His or her beliefs should coincide with the First Christian Church Statement of Faith.
As a member of the staff and the congregation, it is expected this person will continue their professional and spiritual development through appropriate classes, bible studies, involvement in small group ministries, or other appropriate means.
In addition to the required skills, experience or knowledge in the following areas are beneficial:
-Strong Biblical knowledge foundation
-Understanding of how Christianity can impact contemporary culture
-Children/Youth education or ministry
-Family systems and family life
-Mission field work
-Sociology or Psychology
Essential Job Functions:
General oversight of the community missions of First Christian Church including, but not limited to:
-Oversight of afterschool tutoring program (grade school)
-Oversight of other youth-centered neighborhood programing
-Cultivate and maintain a relationship with neighboring elementary school administration, staff and families
-Assess and attend to physical and spiritual needs of the neighboring community through such things as: developmental
programming, interpersonal interaction, Biblical guidance, and direction related to existing outreach
-Working closely with the Ministry Director will help connect people to outreach assistance
-Enlist, direct, and develop volunteers in community missions
-Explore, create, and implement new ministries for the neighboring community and unreached families, seeking methods,
people, and activities that will enhance the church’s impact in our community
-Develop healthy and effective relationships with community leaders, local schools, and other ministries
-Perform other related work (ministry and administrative) as required or requested
This is a full-time position under the oversight of the Elders and Administrative Committee of First Christian Church. This staff member reports directly to the church’s Lead Pastor. Adherence to scripture as a guide for Christian lifestyles, behavior and respect for authority is expected.
