Purpose of Position:
To provide vision, direction, development and management for all aspects of CrossCurrent’s ministry to children from newborn through fifth grade, including supervising volunteers, curriculum, programming, facility, budgets and planning.
Education / Experience:
BA/BS in educational field, specializing in the education of children
(extended years of experience may be a substitute in lieu of degree)
Minimum of 2-3 years experience working with children through ministry or education, as well as in the recruitment and development of adult leaders
Must be a person of strong Christian faith and character with a desire to serve God through children’s ministry.
Preferred spiritual giftings may include; administration, shepherding, serving, teaching, evangelism, discernment and wisdom.
Team player who works closely with the church staff to integrate all ministries, working together in
accomplishing the ministry goals.
Demonstrated ability in recruiting and developing volunteers and teams.
Passion for ministering to children and parents with a committed attitude to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Sense of humor that reflects authenticity & transparency with a joyful heart for the Lord.
High degree of creativity is essential.
Duties & Responsibilities in Children’s Ministry:
Provide vision, direction, development and management for all aspects of our ministry to children from newborn through fifth grade. Encourage, coach and facilitate the recruiting and training of volunteer leaders and teachers. Oversee ongoing strategic development of curriculum, programming, facility, budgets and planning.
Service and Outreach
Work with volunteers to reach out to children in the community. This may include holiday neighborhood events, service projects, Sunday morning service outreach focused events, etc.
Coordinate the strategy, plans and implementation of the portability of the children’s ministry furniture, supplies and equipment. Regularly evaluate the efficiency of the processes in place for logistics and adjust them accordingly.
Offer care for children and families. This may include meeting with parents and or children to help support, train and encourage them spiritually.
Research, select, and develop curriculum. Curriculum rotates on a 5-8 week schedule and must meet the core values and standards of CrossCurrent Ministries. Delegate lessons to the teachers each week and prepare required materials for the lessons, crafts and games that accompany the weekly lessons.
Equip parents to pass on their faith to the next generation by discipling their children. Work to develop and implement an ongoing strategy to help parent’s fulfill their calling to be the primary spiritual trainers of their children. This may be accomplished in the form of monthly newsletter, parenting workshops, small groups, one-on-one meetings, etc.
Assist with the upkeep of the church website, specifically the children’s ministry webpages. Promote events, activities and the vision and goals of the children’s ministry to the parents and community through flyers, advertisements, website, etc.
Formulate, evaluate and implement a timely, efficient and secure volunteer application process, including, but not limited to interviewing potential volunteer candidates, process background checks on applicants, and verifying references.
Formulate, evaluate and implement a timely, efficient check-in and out process for children on Sunday mornings and at special children’s ministry events. This may include, but is not limited to, sign in and out sheets for parents, class rosters, name tags and wristbands for children, parent paging system, etc.
Communicate the overall vision, goals and strategy to the parents and the church. Serve as the liason between the children’s ministry leaders and the church staff, board and elders.
