Youth Pastor / Director of Youth Ministries

Accountable To: The Pastor as Team Leader on behalf of the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Purpose: To serve Christ and the Church by working to fulfill the mission of Garber United Methodist Church - “To make Disciples for Jesus Christ by Inviting, Growing, and Sending.” Develop, coordinate, and administer an effective and comprehensive ministry to the youth of this congregation and community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

To be a witness for Jesus Christ by personal faith and discipleship, holiness of life, commitment to family and personal health, and participation in the life of the Church - worship, study, fellowship, and mission.

I Relationship Building and Discipling

Reach out to the youth of Garber Church and the community - active and inactive - with the Good News of Jesus and an invitation to find a place of belonging, growth and service with the Garber UMC Youth Ministry.

Develop one-on-one relationships with middle and senior high youth by being a friend and positive Christian role model.

Identify, develop, and disciple youth leaders.

Be a presence in the schools and community.

II Ministry Planning, Design, and Implementation

Plan and develop creative programs for middle and senior high youth meetings - inclusive of Sunday School, UMYF, Ekklesia, and summer activities. Recruit and train teachers. Teach as needed.

Assist in opening the Ministry Center and Youth Area as a place for youth in the afternoons and as a gathering following NBHS football games (e.g., “5th Quarter”).

Review and select curriculum materials and educational tools for middle and senior high programs in cooperation with the Education Work Area.

Work with youth and adult leaders on the development of the annual budget for Youth Ministries.

Develop and teach the Confirmation Class, along with the Pastor and mentors.

Plan and coordinate camps, conferences, retreats, and trips.

Develop a recreational ministry for youth.

Implement service and mission projects for youth to grow in service to the Lord (e.g., Solid Rock Café and Funny Money)

Sponsor events in the new Ministry Center - concerts, dramas, etc.

III Worship and Music

Work with youth to offer expressions of worship that are engaging and involving of youth - possible youth worship service, youth involved in Sunday morning worship, etc.

Develop a praise band for youth and engage them in worship.

Assist the Music Department with the Youth Choir and in incorporating Contemporary Music into the primary Sunday morning worship services.

IV Communications

Communicate with the youth through a web site and regular newsletter.

Communicate program plans with parents through web site, regular mailings and/or parent groups.

Assist with the Church web site.

V Staff

Attend staff meetings and retreats.

Attend Administrative Council as a resource and for informational purposes.

Cooperate with the pastor and ministry team by performing other duties as asked to do so.
