Job Description:
First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg is seeking a creative and spirit-led Director of Youth Ministry and Worship Leader. This position requires a clear spiritual calling to this area of ministry and an ability to bring young members of the congregation and community closer to God. Our church vision is Reaching, Teaching, Becoming. We want to reach the lost and needy, teach and equip the body and become more like Jesus.

Culture Description
Invasion Youth Ministry is a growing youth ministry with about 50 students on our roster and an average weekly attendance of 20-30. Our typical Wednesday night includes a time of activity and fellowship, worship and a bible study or message. Worship and the arts is a big part of our youth ministry, several of our youth paint during worship as another way to express their hearts to God. We have a good core of volunteer leaders who help in organization, teaching and mentorship. Our current Director of Youth Ministry is moving as a missionary to Brazil, and will still be a part of our church family. This is a healthy environment and there is a solid foundation that has been built. Our desire is to find a person who will build on that foundation but take the youth ministry to a new level.

Our contemporary service is fairly new and has been steadily growing in number and excitement. Spirit-led worship is a big part of this service. Our goal is not just to sing songs, but to have a worship experience where people can encounter the love of God. We have solid musicians and vocalists already a part of the praise team, but would also like to continue to recruit as the Lord leads. An example of songs that we lead would be from artists like Matt Redman, David Ruis, Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, John Mark McMillan and Desperation Band.

Mercersburg is a rural town with a diverse culture; located about an hour and a half from Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Harrisburg. The church is in town and there is a definite urban feel to the town and lots of opportunities to reach youth in town.
