Job Description:
Title: Children’s Ministries Director

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Supervises: Children’s Ministries staff and volunteers

Scope: The primary responsibility of the Children’s Ministries Director is to provide and direct a comprehensive children’s program designed to assist parents in teaching their children to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ. The Children’s Ministries Director will oversee all ministries related to children with the goal of assisting the pastoral team in leading the church to glorify God and carry out the mission and vision of River Oaks Community Church.

Work Requirement: Full-time staff

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Administration of Children’s Ministries:

a. Plan, schedule, and promote educational ministries (i.e., Sunday mornings, week nights, etc.) and special ministries (i.e., outreach events, camps, special events).

b. Evaluate and implement curriculum and the effectiveness of such curriculum.

c. Supervise, train, and develop paid and volunteer children’s ministries workers and parents.

d. Oversee weekly children’s ministry team meetings.

e. Maintain weekly communication with individual team employees regarding specific ministry areas.

f. Oversee and manage Sunday morning programs.

2. General Responsibilities:

a. Support the overall ministry at River Oaks Community Church through attendance, prayer, and financial giving.

b. Attend staff meeting, retreats, and other staff functions.

3. Organizational Relationships:

a. Communicate issues related to children’s ministries to the pastoral staff, board, and congregation.

b. Collaborate with pastoral staff to plan events and ministry for interaction, outreach, and nurture of families.

c. Cultivate contacts with children and families within the congregation.

d. Cultivate contacts with other children’s ministers for encouragement and idea sharing.

Team Member Contribution:

Actively contributes to the improvement of the ministry of River Oaks Community Church and provides prayerful support.

Education: A degree in ministry or education is preferred.

Experience: At least three years of experience in ministry with children.

Knowledge: Cognizant of developmental stages of children and their applications to ministry.

Ministry Development: Ability to delegate and equip individuals for ministry. Ability to develop positive relationships. Demonstrates strategic thinking in regards to ministry needs.

Personal Characteristics: Desires to listen and learn from other individuals, teachable; ability to find and complete tasks, self-starter; ability to respond quickly and efficiently to various concerns or needs that arise; and creative.

Spiritual Development: Must be a growing Christian, desires to deepen relationship with Jesus Christ and will model this to others. Desires to see children come to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ.

Teamwork: Functions well with co-workers, treating them with honor and grace. Pursues active communication with co-workers and volunteers.
