Job Description:
Irvine Presbyterian Church (IPC) has an immediate opening for the position of Director of Children’s Ministries.

Qualifications include:
• Strong Biblical understanding of reformed theology
• Strong teaching skills that are age appropriate, coupled with the ability to equip others to teach
• Demonstrated organizational abilities
• Energetic, dynamic individual with the ability to communicate with all age groups (children and adults)
• Experience with evaluating, selecting and/or developing Sunday School curriculums
• Ability to develop and implement events, activities and programs
• Leadership skills for working within a committee environment with the ability to work with different constituencies
• Leadership skills for recruiting, training and encouraging volunteers

Education and Work Experience
• 3+ years experience strongly preferred, which may include active involvement and leadership in volunteer capacities in Children’s Ministries
• BS or BA in related field required
• Teaching credential, masters or other related advanced degrees will be considered a plus.

Compensation Package
• Full time, benefited position
• Salary range: $45K - $58K

Position: Director of Children’s Ministries

Department: Program Staff

Reports to: Associate Pastor, Tim Avazian


The Director of Children’s Ministries leads the ministry of spiritual formation – growing disciples of Jesus Christ – among the children of Irvine Presbyterian Church and assists with IPC’s ministries to and with the families of the children.
Responding to IPC missional objectives, the Director:
• develops and guides ministries that will introduce children to Christ, engage them in the church community, and assist them to grow in faith (Discipleship Objective)
• encourages the expression of young faith through practical involvement in Kingdom service (Servanthood Objective)
• disciples and develops leaders, teachers, and other ministry partners throughout the church (Leadership Objective)
• enhances the vitality and outreach of IPC ministries to and with families with children. (Future Objective)



The Director leads the church in spiritual formation, vision development, and team-building for the ministry with children and assists with IPC’s ministries to families with children..

Spiritual Formation -- Sets the tone of spiritual growth, developing expectations for ministry design, and establishing standards for curriculum selection and writing;

Vision -- Brings creativity, fresh thinking, and “big-picture” ideas, assisting IPC to focus on spiritual goals and measurable results in ministry to and with children;

Team-building -- Calls, disciples, and equips a growing team of leaders, developing committees and task groups to guide an enlarging program, creating a collegial environment of leadership relationships

Program Supervision:

The Director oversees programs for spiritual growth for children and their families.

Sunday School and Weekly Programs – The Director works in partnership with the Children’s Ministries Committee –
• to provide structure and organization for the Sunday School;
• to supervise curriculum selection and/or writing;
• to advance the calling and equipping of volunteer leaders among IPC adults.

Special Children’s Ministry Events – The Director works in partnership with the Children’s Ministry Committee and ministries—
• to promote the effectiveness of special events through recruiting leadership, program planning, equipping leaders, developing publicity, etc.;
Examples of possible special events include: Camps (winter and summer); Vacation Bible School; Harvest Celebration; Family Christmas Festival; Family Easter Celebration; Sixth Grade Graduation; Teacher Appreciation; and others.
• To evaluate special events within the overall life of the church.

Administrative Structure -- The Director provides administrative leadership --
• oversees, gives direction to, and is a resource for the members of the Children’s Ministries Staff and other leaders;
• leads in goal-setting, program evaluation, problem-solving, and adjustment of Children’s Ministries in order to better fulfill IPC’s mission statement objectives;
• plans budgets and allocation of resources, in cooperation with the Children’s Ministries Committee, staff and Session leadership;
• supervises the office and organizational systems of Children’s Ministries, insuring effective operation, campus safety, and proper use of department facilities.
• assists in furthering the relationship between the ministries of IPC and the Jenny Hart Preschool, including acting as a liaison between IPC’s Children’s Ministries and the Preschool Board.

Evaluation, Development, and Renewal:

It is expected that over time, the program of Children’s Ministries will grow and change, in vision, program options, and outreach scope. The Director will lead the on-going work of transformation by--
• seeking opportunities for enhanced ministry to and with children and their families;
• evaluating program effectiveness, and making recommendations for program adjustments or eliminations where appropriate;
• developing program designs and new initiatives for future ministry growth
• encouraging and equipping the congregation for energetic support of this growing ministry
