Job Description:

Seeking a Family and Children's Minister who believes in the inerrancy of the Bible; has proven skills in children's worship, biblical teaching and outreach; exceptional organizational, leadership and motivational skills; quality interpersonal and relational skills with parents, staff and leaders; effective writing and verbal communication skills; and basic personal computer skills.

We are a conservative and progressive church with a bright future for ministry and growth in a rapidly growing area just outside of Charlotte, NC. We are mission-minded, supportive of our local association, state convention, and SBC. We have six full-time ministers and numerous outreach programs and specialized ministries such as Upward and deaf.

This position requires a relevant college degree, a minimum of 2 years experience in ministering to children, and evidence of a calling and passion to serve in children's and family ministry. A seminary degree desired.

Family and Children's Minister
Job Description

Principle Function:

The Family and Children's Minister is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive Children's Ministry that focuses on the spiritual growth and well-being of children and their families. The Family and Children's Minister provides leadership for all children's ministries from birth through fifth grade. The Family and Children's Minister works under the immediate supervision of the Senior Pastor.

General Responsibilities:

A. Provides leadership to all aspects of the children's ministries, following all Church guidelines.
B. Develops ministry activities for children to help lead them to a personal relationship with Jesus and to enrich spiritual growth of children and their families.
C. Works with various lay leaders in overseeing ministries for children; supports lay leaders in understanding their roles; guides lay leaders to minister in a manner that glorifies the Lord and meets the spiritual and social needs of the children.
D. Works with Associate Pastor to coordinate Sunday School/spiritual educational activities for children and families.
E. Works with Youth Pastor to prepare children spiritually to be active participants when entering the Youth ministries
F. Works with Music Minister and lay leaders to provide direction in the Preschool and Children's Choirs.
G. Works with Minister of the Deaf to integrate deaf children into ministries with hearing children.

Specific Responsibilities:

A. Provides leadership in working with lay leaders in the ministries of Sunday School, GA's, RA's, and Mission Friends.
B. Plans, obtains volunteers, and provides leadership in the ministries including, but not limited to, Children's Church; Upward Basketball/Cheerleading; Vacation Bible School; Bible drills; summer activities and camps; seasonal/holiday activities.
C. Plans and directs all activities of Upward Basketball/Cheerleading such as: maintains contact with Upward Organization, keeps up-to-date with schedules, obtains appropriate number of volunteers, insures training of volunteers, insures deadlines are met, follows up with needs of children and families, etc.
D. Develops, directs, and participates in worship experience services for Children's Church for ages four through fifth grade.
E. Prepares information to keep parents, visitors, and Church members aware of events involving children.
F. Coordinates Church volunteers in all children ministry activities
G. Serves as liaison of the Family Involvement Committee.
H. Monitors and controls budgets in areas of responsibility; follows Church policies set forth by the Finance Committee.
I. Performs other related duties as directed by Senior Pastor.


- A relevant college degree from an accredited school.
- A proven genuine love for children and an evidence of a calling to serve in this ministry.
- Demonstrated high level of organizational and leaderships skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with and communicate easily with people of all ages and personalities.
- Basic personal computer skills.
- Must promote a positive, Christian attitude in all work activities.
- Must use discretion in dealing with confidential matters.

- Seminary degree.
- Experience in Children's Ministry.
