Position Description
Communications Coordinator


1) Establish and maintain a consistent voice and branding for Colonial Church in all forms of print and electronic communications. Design and/or supervise out-sourced design of all logos, images, photos, graphics, and direct mail marketing materials.
a) Write, edit, and produce Colonial’s regular weekly publications: the Sunday morning worship bulletin and the weekly print and electronic newsletters.
b) Support staff and lay leadership in strategizing, developing and producing effective communication pieces including but not limited to: church mailings, in-house signage, brochures, posters, newsletters, pastoral care publications (funerals, baptisms, etc), postcards, notecards, prayer cards, handbooks, special promotions, and stewardship materials. Maintain records of all create material.
c) Anticipate communication needs for annual and/or seasonal events (Advent, Lent, Stewardship, Testify, Fall Kick Off, Annual Meeting, etc).

2) Evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of communication practices and where needed, create new strategies.
a) Reevaluate print strategy and opportunities to utilize the website. Evaluate direct mailings for ministry areas and decide how best to optimize use of digital technology.
b) Develop social Media Strategies such as Facebook, Twitter.
c) Research new, more effective, options for communication needs including evaluation of the database and software.

3) Direct development of content, design, and ongoing improvements of the Colonial Church website.
a) Recruit and train website administrators from all ministry areas to update ever-changing website content.
b) Write, edit, or approve all website content.
c) Support staff and lay leadership in the development of a timely, accurate and effective web presence including blogs, discussion groups, and other online community building features.
d) Develop and expand website features, including member classifieds, e-cards, e-commerce, and online giving, online calendar.

4) Work in partnership with Technical Services Specialist on digital strategies including but not limited to: weekly Welcome Screens, Calendaring, website strategies, sermon slides and audio visual/media needs for the staff and congregation.

a) Must be a college graduate, with a focus on communications, journalism or similar major.
b) Prior experience required.
c) Must possess proven writing skills in an organizational setting, able to create both internally and externally focused material.
d) Able to work independently and anticipate upcoming needs.
e) Able to meet tight deadlines on a regular basis.
f) Must show ability and motivation to incorporate increase use of digital technology.
g) Must have the ability to select and manage outside resources, ie., art/creative talent, printers, mailers.
h) Able to work with a small team.
i) Should profess the Christian faith, consistent with the Confession of Faith found in the Church’s By-Laws.

Desired computer skills/experience:
Employee must know and be proficient in Mac OS X (Leopard), Adobe Creative Suite CS4, Quark, Flash, In-Design, Photoshop, Keynote, PowerPoint, and Google Email. Experience with Constant Contact or MailChimp. HTML code knowledge a bonus. Experience with printer drivers and page layout in a printer world is necessary.
