Job Description:

The Associate Minister of Music for Christ United Methodist Church will be a committed Christian serving Jesus Christ through the ministry of leading others in worship and the musical arts. This person's characteristics and responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

*Be a team player with all members of the staff and supportive of the whole ministries of the church.

*Degreed musician familiar with many different styles of music and always willing to explore fresh new expressions of worship through the Arts.
*Successful in a previous music ministry.

*Assist the Pastor of Worship Arts in planning and creating meaningful musical expressions of worship in the services that will appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes. Be a creative member of the worship planning team willing to think outside the box and sometimes outside one’s own comfort level to help achieve the very best worship experience possible on a weekly basis.

*Recruit, rehearse and lead a worship band from the guitar or piano. When a second service is introduced be a creative force in defining and developing this service. Explore “styles” that could be unique to Christ Church.

*Accomplished soloist that could provide selections for worship, weddings, funerals, etc.

*Have the ability to cover for the Pastor of Worship Arts in rehearsals of the Chancel Choir, Orchestra, Youth Choir and other ensembles in his absence. Be able to assist in the warm-up of musical groups for worship. Help lead sectionals etc when needed.

*Have the leadership abilities to help administrate any duties assigned to the Worship Arts ministry (i.e. weddings, sanctuary decoration, ushers, sanctuary prep, and communion).

*Discern, develop and equip musical support for emerging ministries in the church (Alpha, Celebrate Recovery and others) as the need arises.

*Have a working knowledge or willingness to learn (understand) basic technology/media used in worship.

*Explore the possibility of a School of Music that would serve the church and reach into the community in mission.
*Good communication and organizational skills

*Be agreeable to other duties as assigned by the Pastor of Worship of Arts and or the Lead Pastor.
