Job Description:

The Emmaus Business Manager is responsible for managing the business affairs of The Emmaus Community ("TEC") and managing a fully functional volunteer ministry.

The Business Manager reports to TEC Pastor

Professional Characteristics

The following professional characteristics will be required of the new TEC Business Manager:

• Working knowledge of financial accounting standards and terminology;
• Working Knowledge of Labor/Employment Laws;
• Demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of TEC;
• Management ability consistent with the management philosophy of TEC;
• The ability to work effectively as a team member and to contribute to the growth of the larger institution.

Personal Characteristics

In addition to the professional characteristics, the following personal characteristics will be required of the new TEC Business Manager:

Specific Duties

The specific duties of the TEC Business Manager include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management:
• Oversees the work of the Finance Team Leader in the receipt, deposit, disbursement and record keeping all church funds;
• Oversees the Finance Team preparation of the annual budget for approval by the elders, and implements it upon approval
• Works with the appropriate serving teams in planning and promoting the annual church stewardship campaign and capital fund drives.
• Obtains an annual audit or review of the church's financial statements
• Oversees the administering of the payroll for staff and guests.
• Assures all tax reports (941, W–2) are promptly paid and timely filed.

Serving Team Management:
• Facilitates the organization of volunteer help.

Personnel Management:
• Develops and administers the personnel policies and procedures of TEC.
• Collaborate with the Pastors to develop and administer the performance evaluation system for TEC staff.
• Assures the church's compliance with federal and state labor laws

Properties Management:
• Oversees the security and emergency preparedness of TEC
• Maintains an inventory of TEC property and equipment.

Office Management:
• Gives general direction to the weekday operation of the church office
• Administers the church office budget and building and grounds maintenance budget, including utilities and contract services.


A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field or equivalent experience preferred
