Job Description:
Children’s Ministry Assistant

The purpose of this position will be:

Provide hands-on support and leadership to the Children (ages infant through 5th grade) of the church
This position will not be responsible for curriculum selection; that responsibility will remain with the Director.

This person shall be a member of the staff of First Presbyterian Church and be under the direct supervision of the Director and as Head of Staff, the Senior Pastor.

Desired Characteristics, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current trends and issues in children’s ministry
A heart for ministry with children
Ability to work collegially with ministry and program staff of the church
A commitment to personal Christian spiritual growth and to helping our church grow spiritually

Lead/Coordinate the Presbyterian Children’s Fellowship program
Lead/Coordinate special programs involving the Children’s Ministry (example: Children’s Christmas Program)
Schedule nursery staff and volunteers for Sunday Services and other church events as requested
Coordinate Sunday morning children’s classes and programs
Have classrooms ready for teachers, including supplies for each class
Coordinate Vacation Bible School, working with the volunteer director(s), planning, training, etc.
Monitor children’s classrooms for cleanliness, staff, supplies

Working Relationships
Meet regularly with the Director
Attend Staff meetings as activities/programs necessitate with a minimum of once a month
Development/Maintain communication with parents
Work with Church Administrator for scheduling use of facility, publicity, transportation arrangements and coordinating help for detail work such as mailings, copying of materials, phoning, etc.
Serve as staff to the Children’s Council

Schedule Expectations
In addition to scheduled meetings (day/times will vary), the majority of the schedule will be on Sundays, both during the morning Sunday School/Worship times and Sunday afternoon activities.
Additional times will be dependent on the schedule of special activities and events
