Summary: The Technical Director is primarily responsible for: meeting the technical needs of weekend services, church ministries and special events (including departmental ministry events and outside organizations events); leadership and oversight of all production, set-up and teardown teams for the auditorium; recruitment, development, training and shepherding of volunteer production teams; research, purchase, installation and ongoing maintenance of all technical equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Plan, organize and direct a comprehensive Technical Ministry to meet the needs of the body and departments of Coast Hills Community Church.
• Promote teamwork, fellowship, and spiritual growth within the Production Team
• Provide overall accountability for the Production Team
• Provide technical support for all services, programs and events
• Create, develop, and administer the Production budget
• Lead Production staff, independent contractors and volunteers

• Provide technical support for all services, programs and events
• Supervise set-up and tear down of all technical elements for the weekend gathering
• Run rehearsal of weekend in partnership with Pastor of Weekends
• Call all technical cues during weekends
• Lead hands-on, on-the-job training for new technical volunteers
• Meet with team in between gatherings to determine mid-course corrections
• Adapt and flex with changes from gathering to gathering
• Primary troubleshooter for any technical issues that arise on weekends
• Work with Associate TD to schedule and provide technical support for special events

Weekly Prep
• Attend weekly programming meeting
• Lead weekly production meeting for weekend
• Represent the Production Team and creatively contribute at departmental meetings
• Communicate Production Team vision, needs, and opportunities to the church body, staff and volunteers
• Work with team to set production schedule
• Work with team to implement weekend stage design
• Ensure that weekly volunteer production, set-up and teardown teams are staffed and scheduled

Volunteer Team Development
• Identify, recruit, assess, train, equip, and place Production volunteers in areas of service to meet the needs of the body of Coast Hills
• Schedule and lead training for Production volunteers
• Provide spiritual oversight, vision, strategic development and coaching for Production staff, independent contractors and volunteers
• Oversee the recruiting, training and development of Production team volunteers, maintaining a high standard of excellence in those chosen for leadership
• Identify, recruit, assess, train, equip, and place Production volunteers in areas of service to meet the needs of the body of Coast Hills and use their spiritual gifts and talents
• RECRUIT to the following teams:
• Lighting
• Audio
• Live Video
• Presentation
• Stage
• Set-Up
• Teardown
• TRAIN, DEVELOP and DELEGATE TASKS to the above teams through on-the-job training, regular team training times, one-on-one skill-teaching and other methods deemed appropriate
• PASTOR and SHEPHERD the above teams through relational outings, team devotional times and other methods deemed appropriate (may include work alongside Pastor of Weekends and Worship Pastor toward establishment of an artists’ spiritual community of some sort)
• INSTITUTE a development strategy for the above teams that includes setting objectives, definitions of success, a timeline for training and clear processes that can be executed in your absence or beyond your tenure

Other Responsibilities:
Participate as a member of the Weekend & Communications team through:
• Operate efficiently within budget guidelines.
• Attend All Staff meetings
• Attend Departmental Staff meetings
• Maintain clear lines of communication in a timely manner between all personnel involved in services and events
• Conduct leadership interviews and performance evaluations
• Equipping volunteers to serve within their spiritual gifts and passions
• Maintaining a core group of volunteers for each area of ministry
• Contribute as part of the Coast Hills staff team to accomplish the church vision
• Other duties as deemed by supervisor

Minimum Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent

Minimum Experience: 5+ years in an active production leadership role (church leadership experience preferred). Additional years of general supervisory and management experience desired. Must have a successful track record of organizing and managing, programs and projects through development of volunteer teams.

Minimum Skills: Must be proficient in technical direction. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrate proven abilities in FOH and Monitor audio engineering (preferably on Yamaha digital consoles). Must have a general working knowledge of all areas of live technical production (audio, lighting, live video, presentation, staging, set design, etc). Intermediate to advanced level computer skills including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, Pro Tools and web based applications.

Physical Demands: The employee must possess mobility to work in a standard office environment and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision to read printed material and a computer screen, close vision, color vision and depth perception; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. The employee must also frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, controls. The employee must be able to drive and attend meetings at various sites and run errands. The employee must possess mobility to walk up and down a ladder, drive a scissor lift, climb on a catwalk, and lift 75 pounds.
