Title: Director of Creative Worship

Staff Position: Part Time
Hours will encompass worship times yet to be determined, rehearsal and planning times with volunteers.

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Summary of Position: First Presbyterian Church of Grapevine seeks to complement its traditional worship services with a less traditional worship service. The Director of Creative Worship will be responsible for overseeing and directing ministry experiences designed to enrich and enhance worship, learning and outreach events at FPCGV. Given that this position has not existed before, there will be a period of exploration to determine the scope of this position. This exploration period will also allow opportunity to tailor the position to the uniqueness of the incoming staff person.

The ideal candidate should be creative, have a passion for excellence, be high energy, hard working and have the ability to motivate others. While having an artistic nature, this person should be detail oriented, flexible, creative and decisive with the ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, meet deadlines and manage a large volunteer staff.

The DCW would work closely with the current Director of Music in establishing the Creative/ Dynamic Worship.

Experience and Education: He/she possesses an excellent track record as a Worship Leader along with building a team, leading music and coordinating media relevant to the post-modern generations. We prefer someone with or pursuing a four year college degree.

Leadership and Administration: Someone who is an upfront and savvy communicator with a strong background in current worship music and media. It is critical that he/she be skilled at drawing people into God’s presence. In addition, he/she should have good team building skills, know the limits of what can be managed and be comfortable delegating. He/she must have a vision and passion for expanding and enhancing the creative worship experience at FPCGV.

Responsibilities: Creative Worship
1. Provide leadership and oversight to the organizational and creative activities necessary to produce and maintain a God-centered worship that reflects the Presbyterian vision and values of FPCGV. Responsibilities include:

2. Vision
Promote a church-wide vision of what Creative Worship would look and sound like and how it can lead Christians into a genuine and authentic worship experience.

3. Implement Strategy
Promote a strategy that encourages lay participation while retaining responsibility for style, quality and content.

4. Provide Leadership
a) Effectively build relationships with paid staff, worship ministry members, volunteers and congregation at large.
b) Resource and provide awareness to the worship ministry as he/she make supporting decisions regarding:

Philosophy, standards and procedures for Creative Worship
Annual operating budget for Creative Worship
Operational decisions and policy recommendations to Session

c) Have a personality, presence and giftedness that allows for effective up-front leadership in public venues such as the creative worship service.

5. Train and equip
Lead the staff in continuously identifying and training the people to serve according to their gifts.
Oversee training efforts to assist staff and lay leaders in making creative worship a significant part of other gatherings besides the Creative Worship Service.

6. Evaluate
Work with the Senior Pastor, Director of Music and Worship Ministry to establish, develop and evaluate the philosophy, standards and procedures for creative worship at FPCGV.
Work with the staff and volunteers to evaluate and advance the creative worship experience.

Administrative responsibilities of the Director of Creative Worship

Accountability – Be directly accountable to the Senior Pastor. Periodic performance reviews.
Supervision – Establish, supervise and conduct performance reviews for support staff including musicians.
Coordination - Coordinate the Creative Worship Service within the overarching vision, mission, and purpose of First Presbyterian Church of Grapevine. Please see for a general sense of who we are.
Advise and approve – advise and approve of program elements contained within the Creative Worship service.
Worship Ministry – serve as an ex-officio member of the Worship Ministry.
