Church Size: Not Applicable
Job Type: Full-Time
Huron Hills Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan seeks a full-time, full-speed, agape-besotted Minister of Worship Arts. The position was created for a woman or man with a deep understanding of theology, arts and culture—and the ability to build programs and services in direct response to God’s call on the Church to answer and provide context for the central questions/mysteries of modern life.
The Minister of Worship arts will have a passion for developing and leading volunteer teams in cutting edge contemporary forms as well as traditional forms of worship across multiple genres of art, including music, film, dance, literature, and visual art/installation. Must have a demonstrated ability to program and/or lead in a blended worship context without sacrificing excellence in either traditional or contemporary forms. Must embrace and evangelize the value of the traditional canon of church music, while also understanding why it’s more desirable to use an acoustic drumset than an electronic one or a tube amp instead of a Line 6. Must be comfortable leading smart, educated people with grace, a light touch, and a sense of humor.
This is a call for a leader and producer, not merely a performer, though performance experience is required. Persons needing weekly time on the platform need not apply. Persons terrified of the platform need not apply either (except in the case of holy terror). A thorough understanding of team and community building is essential. Intolerance of cheese and affectation is required. 3-5 years of experience in a similar or directly related field is required. B.A. required. A music degree is welcome but not preferred.
Huron Hills is a vibrant, thriving church on the verge of significant development and growth in its worship life. The volunteer resources in place at the church are considerable, as is the supply of leadership and talent via the rich tapestry of networks in Ann Arbor. The church’s senior staff enjoys healthy relationships and a robust planning process. The Minister of Worship Arts will join a strong team and must hunger for consensus building and collaboration.
Ann Arbor is a beautiful and ideal place to live, work, and raise a family, with a unique blend of urban/eclectic downtown offerings and leafy tree-lined neighborhoods. As a hub for excellence in education, the city is home to five colleges and universities, including the University of Michigan.
