Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, www.gsumc.org is a modern, evangelical congregation located in suburban Charlotte, North Carolina.
Started in 1991, the church currently averages over 1500 people in its three Sunday worship services. Good Shepherd is known throughout the region for its innovative worship, broad outreach, and racially & ethnically diverse population.
The church is housed in a spacious campus featuring over 50,000 square feet of space. Its location makes it convenient to worshippers from York County, South Carolina in addition to the entirety of Charlotte itself.
The church’s rallying cry is Walking Together. As the people of the church walk towards Christ-likeness, they measure their progress according to five milestones: filling, growing, serving, loving, and inviting. The staff and leaders base all programming on the Walking Together milestones. The people of the church have found this simple, focused model to be an effective means of harnessing energy and creativity.
While modern in its approach to worship and ministry, Good Shepherd holds strongly to ancient beliefs and doctrines. In particular, the church affirms:
• The authority and inspiration of Scripture;
• A Wesleyan understanding of salvation by grace;
• The ongoing expression of the gifts of the Holy Spirit
The church has a strong commitment to group life, including the Pathfinder ministry (“where community begins”) and the Passage School of Theology (“where learning begins”).
Good Shepherd has 18 full and part-time staff, including eight pastors and directors.
