Job Description:
Cornerstone Church is definitely a great place to serve in ministry. We are nine years old and are currently averaging over 800 people in 3 Sunday morning services held at our 2 campuses (Marion and North). Despite our rapid growth in attendance, we are focused on making disciples of Jesus Christ, not creating mega-gatherings. We believe that God has called us to impact the region of Southern Illinois (and probably beyond). But that vision is not one of people driving long distances to a single “mega-campus.” We are committed to starting Cornerstone campuses throughout this region.

This vision is fueling our desire to hire an Executive Pastor. By creating this position, we are aspiring to better coordinate the ministries of a rapidly growing church. As you will find detailed in our job description (which we will email to you by request), the main responsibilities for this new position are 1) Connecting vision and excellence and 2) Managing. We are looking for a man with the savvy insight of a business Executive with the character and heart of a Pastor. Consequently, if your life doesn’t line up with God’s description of a pastor (or elder/bishop/overseer), PLEASE DO NOT APPLY! (Actually, if your life doesn’t look like that, I’m not sure why you are looking at our ad?!?!)

You must be confident enough to effectively lead leaders but humble enough to mostly work “behind the scenes.” Our Executive Pastor’s primary responsibility will be to create successful ministry by developing effective ministers within the paid staff and key volunteer staff. Do you find great fulfillment standing behind the curtain while watching someone (whom you developed) succeed in front of the crowd? Are you able and willing to jump out there on stage when the “talk” fits an area of your expertise? If you can confidently answer “yes” to both of those questions, you just may be our next Executive Pastor.

Oh yeah, if you don’t like the Midwest or the culture of Southern Illinois…PLEASE DO NOT APPLY! And if you are simply looking to step onto the next rung of the ministry success ladder…PLEASE DO NOT APPLY! We are looking for an individual who desires (by God’s grace) to plant himself in a place of ministry with huge potential and stay to see it come to fulfillment. Our apologies to you rookies, but we are simply not hiring someone who is looking to get started in ministry. We are looking for one who has an impressive track record of ministry in a larger church, but an insatiable appetite to do it even better this time. If you cannot speak of how you have effectively led a vibrant ministry, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY!

Please take a look at our website (we will soon release a new design but our current one will give you a feel for who we are and where we are going). Please submit your resume ( so we can begin to get a feel of who you are (please include a picture). Also, please know that we will not drag out this process. If you believe that God may be calling you to join this exciting ministry…well…get us your stuff! When you do, please answer two questions: Why are you passionate about the role of an Executive Pastor? Why you for this position?
