Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church, a growing, praying, serving Christ-centered church located in metro-Atlanta is currently seeking God’s direction for selecting a Director of Children’s Ministry. Qualified candidates must have a disciple’s heart for nurturing and teaching children and families as well as the desire to work within a team approach ministry. Candidates should have a clear faith in Jesus Christ, a love for the Lord, along with membership and commitment to HMUMC.

The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for providing leadership for all ministries involving children from birth to 5th grade. This includes Sunday School, Wednesday Night Children’s Ministries, Vacation Bible School and other assigned events such as celebrations of Easter, Advent, and Fall Festivals. The Director will provide guidance to children through the Rainbows Ministry.

The Director of Children’s Ministry shall help the lay people of the church discover their gifts and talents for ministry and leadership with children. Working with the Children’s Council, the Director will insure that the congregation, staff, and administrative board are aware of upcoming events and opportunities for service in the children’s ministry.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in children’s education or ministry-related field
3-5 years leadership experience in a growing church
Flexibility and adaptability to grow with the congregational needs and spiritual direction of the church

1. Vision Casting – has the capability to anticipate, plan, articulate and manage new programs to meet the needs of our growing children’s ministry.

2. Leadership – has the talent to recruit, train, organize, and retain volunteers; hire, support and evaluate staff; manage conflict and find resolutions in Godly ways; ability to facilitate and participate in team-building activities.

3. Supervision – has the ability to implement and maintain policies and procedures that provides a safe, quality, Christ-centered environment for children.

4. Management – has the skill to anticipate and plan for curriculum needs; ability to administer and manage the Children’s Ministry budget, calendar, facilities and other assigned management responsibilities.

5. Communication – has the talent to speak and write effectively; ability to communicate program designs and events to parents, staff, and volunteers.

6. Sensitivity to pastoral concerns – has the ability to provide confidential and compassionate care to children and families.
