Traditional Music Director (Full Time)

 

 

Position(s) to be filled:     Monday, February 5, 2017

JOB PURPOSE

 

Music is an important and essential ministry of Christ’s Church.  It presents God’s Word to God’s people, and thereby informs of God’s Will and grace, while encouraging people to participate in an express their faith.  The use of music in worship and other gatherings will bring life, power, and spiritual vitality to the people.  Because music is highly relevant to the worship of the Body, this person needs to be a committed Christian and a professional musician who know he/she is called by God into this specific ministry.

 

He/she functions directly under the guidance and supervision of Team of Lay Ministry and the Lead Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church. The position requires that he/she has a strong Christian background and will exemplify the Church’s Christian ethics through word and daily living.  This vacancy will be filled by either two part-time staff members or one full-time director.  Please indicate your preference.

 

DUTIES-Adult and Children’s

  1. Devotional Life
  2. To spend time each day in personal reading of the Scriptures.
  3. To spend time each day in personal prayer.
  4. To share with the Pastors visions that may be brought to him/her through the power of the Holy Spirit.
  5. To meet with the Lead Pastor on a weekly basis to discuss preludes, anthems, and Features.
  6. Ministry and Staff Meetings:  The Traditional Music Director shall meet weekly for ministry, devotional, planning, and sharing time on the following levels:
  7. Ministry Staff Meeting – Tuesday at 10:15 a.m.
  8. General Staff Meeting – Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
  9. Weekly Meeting with the Lead Pastor – day and time to be determined
  10. Quarterly Traditional Music Team meeting.
  11. Will be asked to attend a monthly meeting of the Lay Ministry Team, and Congregational Meeting.
  12. It is the responsibility of the Traditional Music Director(s) to coordinate all clerical work such as: sorting, maintenance and filing of music, maintenance of attendance records, requisitioning of all music, instruments and apparel, development of publicity for all programs, aid in the preparation of an annual budget for music ministry that would include expense for purchase of music, musical instruments, clerical items, and expenses involved the maintenance of instruments.
  13. The Traditional Music Director works closely with the Church Organist/Piano Player.

 

 

Specific Duties- ADULT

 

  1. To provide the necessary guidance in the following areas:
    1. Lead Adult Choir rehearsal, on Thursday evening.
    2. Lead Adult Handbell Choir, on Thursday evening.
    3. Coordinate and Conduct orchestra for festival services.
    4. Conduct choirs and ensembles at the 9:27 Worship Service.
    5. Program music for all traditional services including Wednesday evening Advent & Lenten services, Christmas Eve Worship, Maundy Thursday. 
    6. Make arrangements for substitutes during vacations and times of illness.

 

  1. This person must be able to develop working relations with other ministries and work as a team player.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES- CHILDREN’S

 

  1. To provide the necessary guidance in the following areas.
  2. Lead Children’s choir rehearsals
  3. Lead Children’s Handbell rehearsals
  4. Conduct children’s choirs monthly at 9:27 and/or 11:00 Sunday worship
  5. In coordination with Adult and Contemporary Directors, Program music for all traditional services including Wednesday evening Advent & Lenten services, Christmas Eve Worship, Maundy Thursday.  
  6. Produce and direct yearly children’s musical.
  7. Make arrangements for substitutes during vacations and times of illness.

 

  1.  This person must be able to develop working relations with other ministries and work

       a team player.

 

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

For personal growth, both in the development of Music Ministry and personal development, the Traditional Director(s) will attend the following as mutually agreed upon by the Lead Pastor.

  1. Seminars and workshops in the field of Music Ministry as approved by the Lead Pastor and Lay Ministry Team.
  2. As appropriate, will assist in arranging Music Ministry seminars and workshops onsite for Pastoral and Music Ministry Staff.
  3. The Traditional Music Director will also keep abreast of research and periodical in the area of Traditional Music Ministry for support of Trinity’s spiritual growth.

 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. The candidate must be an inspirational musician with a strong Christian faith.
  2. Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Ministry, Music Education, or Music Performance.  (Full-Time)
  3. Is proficient with piano and handbells, organ a plus.
  4. Familiarity with Lutheran Liturgy and worship order a plus.
  5. Understand the role and importance of music in worship and other aspects of church life.
  6. Experience in conducting vocal and instrumental ensembles.
  7. Organizational and planning skills required to plan and coordinate choral and instrumental rehearsals.
  8. Desire to actively participate in the life, work and worship of this congregation.
  9. Able to effectively interact with a wide variety of persons of differing ages and backgrounds.
  10. Agrees with the statement of faith and mission of Trinity Lutheran Church.
