NBCC Minister of Family Life

Full Time: 40 Hours/Week

 

New Brighton Christian Church is a nondenominational, independent church in the theological tradition of the Christian church/church of Christ. We are located in a residential area in the northern suburbs of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

 

God is moving us from a more compartmentalized children/youth ministry into a more integrated family ministry. This job description is intended to be a guideline rather than a comprehensive description of the minister’s daily activities. It is intended to assign basic areas of responsibility.

 

The Minister of Families, Youth, and Children will be integral in helping New Brighton Christian Church fulfill its purpose and mission of loving God, loving people, and sharing the Good News by raising Christ-centered followers in Christ-centered homes.

 

The Minister of Families, Youth, and children will have two primary responsibilities:

1. Teach young people and families when they’re in church.

2. Equip parents to disciple their families when they’re at home.

 

1. Teach young people and families when they’re in church.

The primary emphasis will be on Sunday School, Jr. and Wee Worship, mid-week activities, and staffing the nursery.

Oversee the development of creative, age appropriate curriculum that is in alignment with NBCC’s vision and mission, and aligns with the church theologically; one that both addresses the need for Biblical knowledge as well as application of that knowledge to daily living for children, youth and families.

Recruit and develop a creative, effective, and empowered volunteer team that assures all classroom needs and requirements are provided, and ensuring safety and appropriate teacher/student ratios in classrooms. Oversee screening and background checks for all volunteers.

             Primary Duties:

              Youth –

              Lead the youth group. Recruit, lead, train and volunteer base to assist with youth

Prepare curriculum to teach youth group in conjunction with the Senior Minister

Schedule, lead and attend youth activities such as teen nights, fundraisers, and mission trips

Participate in church events, social activities, and staff meetings

Visit and coordinate with parents; ability to counsel with parents and students if requested.

              Children –

Recruit, lead, train volunteer base to assist with children

Prepare curriculum to teach children in conjunction with the Senior Minister.

Schedule, lead and attend children’s activities such as VBS and the Pumpkin Patch Party

Participate in church events, social activities, and staff meetings

Visit and coordinate with parents; ability to counsel with parents and students if requested.

              Family –

Develop and implement new family programs and events such as parenting classes and marriage seminars.

 

2. Equip parents to disciple their families when they’re at home.

Partner with parents by equipping them with resources, discipleship strategies, and ministries which help them intentionally lead their families in spiritual growth.

Create and maintain avenues for parent interaction and involvement with the children’s and youth programming.

Develop fun, exciting, and relevant programming ideas and outreach events that help churched and non-churched families experience Jesus.

Develop and support new programs focusing on family ministry, such as short-term book groups, parenting classes, playgroups, etc.

Oversee marriage-related ministries.

 

3. Associated Ministry

Minister personally to children, students, and their families as they have need.

Publicize and promote FL ministry activities by phone, e-mail, church website, Facebook, print, and personal contact.

Provide discipleship, fellowship, and ministry opportunities for young adults.

Serve on the staff at either middle school or sr. high camp at Pine Haven.

Be on call for personal ministry in the absence of the Sr. Minister.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • An active and vital relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • An understanding of the unique role of parents as primary disciplers and a passion to empower them fully.
  • Experience working with children, teens, parents and volunteers.
  • Four-year degree in a related field preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to oversee and prioritize multiple projects and activities.
  • Ability to recruit and support volunteers and incorporate their feedback.
  • Ability to develop and nurture team-building relationships and to provide ongoing leadership development.
  • Ability to design programs and activities; to strategize and implement.
  • Knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office and proficient in the use of social media platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, organized, and self-managed.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules for Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and weekly activities.
  • Must communicate well with the Senior Minister and the Elders.
