Saint James United Methodist Church is located on a 60-acre campus in East Montgomery in the fast-growing community of Pike Road, Alabama. We have close to 2,000 members, and we average around 800 in worship. Our many and varied ministries impact thousands of people in our community each week. We offer Sunday morning worship experiences, Life Groups, Children's Ministries, Student Ministries, Women's Ministries, Weekday Preschool, Upward Soccer, Leap Gymnastics, Scouting, Celebrate Recovery, Young at Heart, Support Groups as well as various Mission and Outreach opportunities. There are also many nonprofit organizations, ministries, educational groups, neighborhood Associations, and businesses that use our facilities for community impacting events each week!

The journey of Saint James began in 1946 as a house church in the Ridgecrest neighborhood located in West Montgomery. In 1947, the first Pastor was appointed for an interim start up first year. And then, in 1948, Rev. G. Stanley Frazer was appointed, and the church began under the name Saint James Methodist Church. A vision was birthed to find property and build a church. A chapel was the first thing built on the then new Court Street location in 1949 followed by a large sanctuary (1953) and a children's wing (1956).

Throughout the years, many outstanding events happened at this original Saint James UMC location. Countless weddings, baptisms and funerals occurred at the beautiful gothic cathedral on Court Street. And many famous people belonged to Saint James over the years. Governors George C. and Lurleen B. Wallace were active members as well as the famous quarterback Bart Starr, who grew up at Saint James.

Saint James has grown from a struggling, aging congregation in the late 1980's and early 1990's to a vibrant growing church. Saint James has a history in recent years of being one of the fastest growing churches in the Alabama West Florida Conference of the UMC and is listed among the top 100 largest United Methodist Churches in America.

With all our faithful members, dedicated staff, extensive missions partnerships and a fantastic location combined with our deep passion to share the love of Christ and the grace of God, the future of Saint James has never been brighter. We desire to continue to be a church focused on our mission to make, empower and send out fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ! As we continue to build the right Pastoral and staffing team, we believe that the best is truly yet to come and that God has an amazing future in store for Saint James United Methodist Church!

About the Location:

Montgomery

Montgomery is a hidden gem of Alabama. As the capital of Alabama and the county seat of Montgomery County, it was named for Richard Montgomery and is located on the Alabama River, in the Gulf Coastal Plain. As of the 2013 Census, Montgomery has a population of 201,332. It is the second-largest city in Alabama, after Birmingham

Montgomery is nationally known for its many historic/cultural landmarks and events such as the Alabama State Capitol, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church, First White House of the Confederacy, Montgomery Bus Boycott, Hank Williams Memorial, Alabama War Memorial and Alabama Shakespeare Theater. The city attracted the first electric streetcar system and Wright Brothers (Orville & Wilbur) first school for powered flight. Today, Montgomery is the home of both Maxwell and Gunter Air Force Bases.

The city consists of several public schools: thirty-six elementary, twelve junior/middle and eight high schools. Additionally, Montgomery has a total of thirty-seven private schools. The city is the home of several public and private colleges, as well as military schools. Montgomery’s fifteen colleges, universities and military schools provide world-class educational opportunities.

In 2004, Montgomery landed one of the biggest economic development projects when Hyundai Motors Manufacturing Alabama built its $1.4 billion automotive plant. The Montgomery location became the first assembly and manufacturing plant in the United States. It employs over 3,000 team members and currently produces the next generation Sonata sedan and Santa Fe sport utility vehicle.

That same year, Montgomery acquired a minor league baseball team called the Montgomery Biscuits, Class AA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Biscuits are the 2006 and 2007 Southern League Champions. The team plays in a newly renovated 7,000-seat facility known as Riverwalk Stadium and owned by the City of Montgomery. The stadium consists of several style seating: executive box, super box, and lawn and suite level.

Today, Montgomery is known for its renaissance of historic downtown and redevelopment of the riverfront. Montgomery is a city rich in history, yet clearly focused on the future. Once the capital of the Confederacy, Montgomery grew to become the center of the Civil Rights Movement. They are more than just the capital of Alabama - they are the epitome of economic prosperity. They enjoy being the showplace for southern hospitality, beautiful weather, and high-tech jobs, and they live up to their motto for being a place where “dreams start here.”

Pike Road

The Town of Pike Road had an amazing experience of growth and development. The Town has categorized its development into four basic categories that are supported by a strong administrative system, conservative fiscal policy and a dedication to communication. The Four Pillars of the town are Planning, Education, Quality of Life and Services. As the Four Pillars are integrated into the daily activity, it becomes clear that they are a part of each and every decision that the town undertakes.

Over the time from 2010 to 2015, the town has experienced phenomenal growth. The development of property and the annexation of parcels within neighborhoods have made the town one of Alabama’s fastest growing communities. Yet at the same time, the town has been careful not to force annexation. Every individual property owner has been given the opportunity to enter the town at a casual pace. In 2010, the town was just over 5000 people. By 2015 the growth had surpassed 8000.
