Job Description:

Upper Milford Mennonite Church is a small, active church which is looking for a visionary pastor to navigate us through our journey with Christ, both collectively and individually.  On our journey we are seeking spiritual growth, increased vitality in our congregation and to share the love of Christ in the community. 


  • QUALIFICATIONS for Candidate:  
    • Possess a seminary degree and an understanding and appreciation for the Anabaptist/Mennonite Faith are required.  Consideration may be given to a candidate who is in the process of pursuing a seminary degree
    • Be people oriented, relational and a dynamic communicator
    • Be a strong and prayerful leader who exhibits humility and decisiveness
    • Reflect qualities found in 1 Timothy 3
    • Be in agreement and alignment with UMMC’s mission and vision statements, values and doctrine
    • Be skilled in leadership development and big-picture thinking


  • EXPECTED ETHICAL STANDARDS: Ethics for pastors are based on the covenant relationship with God expressed in Jesus Christ.  The pastor is expected to maintain consistent Christian testimony, stay fresh in relationship with Christ, effective with family and creative in ministry.


  • ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT:  The pastor is accountable to the Pastoral Team and submits reports at regular meetings and an annual report to the congregation.  The pastor develops accountability relationships with the Pastoral Team, Ministry Council and the conference minister.  The Pastor/Congregation Relations Committee helps provide support for the relationship between the pastor and congregation, when needed.


  • PRIMARY DUTIES shall include but not be limited to the following:
  • Participate in the life of the Church
  • Maintain relational, spiritual and professional trust with the congregation
  • Preach Sunday services
  • Coordinate themes/sermons with the Worship Committee’s plans for worship services
  • Perform pastoral duties for weddings, funerals and special functions
  • Attend scheduled monthly Pastoral Team and bi-monthly Ministry Council meetings and give activity reports
  • Meet as needed with the Pastor/Congregation Relations Committee
  • Attend congregational meetings
  • Lead membership classes, provide counseling and lead other specific groups as needed
  • Help individual members identify, develop and use their gifts and abilities within the congregation
  • Shall be an ex-officio member and counselor of all committees with the power to vote.
  • Other duties as required.


  •  SECONDARY DUTIES shall include but not be limited to the following:
  • Participate with and support established community church relationships
  • Attend and participate in Eastern District Conference activities and/or committees and district events
  • Communicate information and promote resources of the Eastern District Conference and Mennonite Church USA within the congregation.  Additional conference involvement is at discretion of the Pastor and/or Ministry Council
  • Encourage relationship with other Anabaptist pastors
  • Enabled to (Encouraged to) serve as delegate to the Mennonite Church USA bi-annual assembly
  • Other duties as required

It is also important that the pastor take one (1) full day a week off (or equivalent) to attend to non-church activities.  The pastor will have to manage the hours worked accordingly.
