Job Title: Interim Contemporary Worship Leader (part-time) sought by a dynamic and growing church located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta.   North Avenue Presbyterian Church has served Atlanta, Georgia since 1898.  Our 900-member congregation represents cultural and socioeconomic diversity at its very best." 

Location: North Avenue Presbyterian Church, 607 Peachtree Street, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30308. 

Job Purpose: Responsible for leading the Worship Band providing music and worship elements for Contemporary Worship services currently at 9:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. 

Supervisor:  Director of Worship Arts (DOWA)

Job Responsibilities:  

I. Leadership 

–Work under the guidance of the Director of Worship Arts so that the music and worship elements presented in the contemporary worship service will best fit the needs of the church. 
–Offer spiritual leadership in preparation with musicians and vocalists and in leading the congregation (prayers, call to worship, transitional statements, encouragement, etc.).
–Create an environment of invitational congregational singing in weekly worship services.
–Plan and conduct weekly Worship Band rehearsal and/or equivalent access to media for at-home preparation. 

II. Member Development
–Promote the musical ability and spiritual development of Worship Band members through their participation in the music ministry.
–Within the context of contemporary worship, provide opportunities for various age groups to serve and grow.
–Work with vocalists and instrumentalists when appropriate and assist them when they are performing as part of the contemporary worship services. 

III. Administrative
–Responsible for the selection of any vocalists or instrumentalists.
–Participate in the planning and supervision of special events in music and the arts at the church. 
–Select or participate in the selection of music for the contemporary worship services. 

IV. Other duties as assigned

–Some technical knowledge (audio, lighting, worship technologies)

–The ability to provide various musical styles is preferred 

Job Duties: 

Part I – During the Week (8 hours)
–Attend creative planning and worship planning meetings as requested by DOWA
–Lead selection and arrangement of music for contemporary worship services
–Lead Worship Band rehearsals for services   
–Plan transitions and other elements of the service   
–Prepare music charts for the Band and lyric flow for slides 

Part II – Sunday Services (9:00am & 5:45pm services, 8-9 hours)
–Lead Worship Band through sound check and pre-service rehearsals 
–Ensure that Worship Band is prepared and aware of all expectations
–Make any changes that need to be made pre-service
–Direct Worship Band in worship services  

Job Overview: The main responsibility for this position is to ensure the excellence of musical worship and arrangement of songs, transitions and other elements of contemporary worship. This person should not be afraid to ask questions and to make sure that the vision for something is going to translate well into a worship service.  This person needs to be a natural leader, be able to address both individuals and a group and have a sense of the big picture of church life. Preferably someone with Worship Leading experience along with a discerning spirit and sensitivity to the needs of the Worship Band and the congregation. This role requires being open to the ideas and suggestions of others and the flexibility to react to unforeseen challenges that often take place in services of worship. Contemporary worship relies heavily on staff leadership, volunteer involvement and multiple modes of communication. This person should find great joy in being a part of a creative whole. A deep and active faith is essential as this position involves leading the congregation and volunteer leaders musically and spiritually.
