Job Description:

Grace United Methodist Church in Indiana, PA is looking for an outgoing, energetic, creative and fun individual to lead and further develop our Youth Ministries. Must be able to provide, or develop, spiritual and logistical leadership to an established program and curriculum.  Will also constantly seek innovative methods, research new curriculum and implement new programs to further the relational development between youth, their families and the salvation message of Jesus Christ.  

 

This position requires leadership skills to oversee/coordinate a volunteer staff. Ideal candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Ministries, Education or related fields and have 1-3 years of experience (volunteer or paid) in a Youth Christian Education setting.   Position includes competitive salary, health insurance, pension, paid holiday/personal time and paid vacation.  Interested applicants should submit their resumes to sprc@indianagrace.org.  




Principle Function:

Reach and nurture youth and their families with faith, hope and love through education, programming and outreach.

 

Regular Duties:

     Leadership:

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of youth ministry, including the vision, growth, direction, planning and evaluation of all ministry activities 
  • Lead Youth ministry team to develop a unified, strategic plan that includes clearly defined values and core values
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with our Safe Sanctuary policy and procedures
  • Coordinate with Directors of Traditional & Contemporary Music and Children’s Music Ministry
  • Coordinate fundraising activities for Youth Missions
  • Plan and execute Youth Missions Programs

 

    Teaching:

  • Teach, oversee/lead Youth ministry and worship and interact directly with youth and their families

 

 

     Team Building:

  • Recruit, screen, select, train, equip, evaluate, encourage, develop and grow the staff volunteers for the purpose of building and strengthening the ministry.  Work as a team with all staff to guide and support the broader ministries of the church.
  • Work cooperatively with Family Life Ministry Team

 

     Communication:

  • Work to maintain open, helpful communication with the parents, staff, congregation, participants, volunteers and the greater community regarding the Youth Ministry.
  • Communicate facility upkeep and improvement needs for Youth Ministries
  • Update and maintain Youth Ministry information for the all Grace UMC social media
  • Prepare “State of the Program” report for Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee bi-annually

 

     Administrative:

  • Weekly one-on-one meeting with supervisor
  • Regular one-on-one meetings with reportable staff
  • Weekly staff meeting
  • Participate in weekly Worship Committee meetings

 

     Skills and Gifts:

  • Ability to work within a team concept of ministry at every level
  • Ability to help develop & articulate a vision for Youth Ministry consistent with the vision of Grace UMC
  • Ability to develop innovative, creative, cutting edge approaches in youth ministries
  • Ability to recruit, train, organize, engage & motivate a cohesive team of staff and volunteers in youth ministries
  • Ability to be enthusiastic, with high energy; a self-starter
  • Demonstration of a teachable spirit
  • Ability to manage conflict in helpful, honest, redemptive ways
  • Ability to devote 40 – 50 hours weekly to youth and young adult ministries


        Spiritual

  • Ability to articulate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Ability to demonstrate active involvement in a community of faith
  • A love for teens and young college aged adults and a passion to share Jesus with them by spending time with them

 

    Supervisory

  • Supervise program volunteers

     Requirements:
      Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field(s); Preferred one - three years of volunteer or paid experience in a Youth Christian Education setting

 

      Knowledge: 

      A comprehensive knowledge of the Bible and extensive understanding of Biblical concepts

      Comprehensive understanding of the developmental, spiritual and emotional needs of teens and young adults.
