Education/Experience:  

Theological training and 4 plus years experience (preferred)  leading  a student ministry of 50 or more students (typically this is reflected by a Bachelor’s degree and 4 years full-time experience).

 

Qualifications/Skills:   

  • Have a growing personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and have taken the step of believer’s baptism

  • Meet the biblical qualifications for elder/pastor as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Maintain a posture of growth in ministry: physical, spiritual, mental, and social

  • A passion and love for ministering to students and a desire to help them grow in their relationship with Christ

  • Be in agreement with the doctrinal statement, mission, vision, and values of CBC (find out more at www.cbcva.org/aboutus )

  • An ability to manage the financial and budgetary needs of the student ministry

  • An ability to create, grow and nurture  student ministry teams as well as being a team player with the overall staff.

  • An ability to plan, organize and execute events/travel for a large group


Position Summary:  

Plan, direct, conduct, evaluate, and administer a comprehensive student ministry (middle and high school) relevant to today’s students, focusing on evangelism/outreach, team building, discipleship, and fellowship. This should include but not be limited to Sunday/Wednesday Bible teaching/worship, events, camps, retreats and mission opportunities.

 

Specific Responsibilities:  

Give oversight to maintaining and developing the mission of CBC Student Ministry, including:

  • Connect the student to the overall life of the church and the church to the needs of its students. Strive to engage students in worship, Bible study, prayer, evangelism, missions and service with a focus on relationships and community.

  • Facilitate weekly student studies and other ministry activities, serving as the primary teacher/teaching coordinator for all Sunday and Wednesday group meetings.

  • Foster, promote, and actively participate in student programs that provide spiritual growth and fellowship, i.e. monthly events, missions, camps, retreats, community service, and small groups.

  • Provide counsel for students and/or their parents on issues relating to salvation, spiritual life, relationships, and other culturally related topics.

  • Cooperate with local para-church organizations to deepen our partnership and create new contacts with students in the community, e.g. FCA and Edge Clubs.

  • Connect with students outside of the regular weekly programs through meeting for lunch/coffee, attending extracurricular activities, etc.

  • Oversee and lead the Student Ministry Team by facilitating meetings to outline events for the upcoming months that will serve to accomplish the mission of both CBC and its Student Ministry.

  • Recruit, equip and empower new and existing Adult/Student leaders and teams.

  • Oversee and manage the student ministry budget, detailed attendance, calendars, etc.

  • Provide parental support and encouragement through regular communications (emails, newsletters, social media, etc.) and periodic equipping opportunities (“How to…” seminars, etc.)
