Job Title:      Director of Worship and Music Ministries

Reports to:   Pastor, Head of Staff

Status:          Exempt Manager

Type:             Full Time (40 hours)

 

Purpose of the Job:

The overall purpose of this job is to develop, supervise and facilitate a ministry of worship and music throughout the church; which would include providing ongoing supportive and equipping coaching to people involved with worship and music. The job also includes providing leadership and management to worship and music staff; and necessitates a demonstrated commitment to God’s mission in the world; and to believe in and fully support West Hills Church’s mission and values.

 

A.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Areas

Essential Functions and Duties of   the Job

Worship Planning   & Execution

  •   Under the leadership of the Pastor work together to design worship experiences which help people connect with God; including special worship services
  •   Spiritually and technically, lead the worship team, preparing all aspects of rehearsals   and worship.
  •   Utilize Planning Center for planning and scheduling of worship services, personnel and volunteers
  •   Responsible for the environs of different worship areas
  •   Oversee the sound system, musical equipment, video, media and audio production
  •   Coordinates volunteers for services including: Ushers, Communion Servers, Communion setup team, Greeters, Pew Rack Team, Sound team, Media and Audio teams
  •   Seek out new and varied forms of worship; including special music
  •   Maintain and order worship supplies

Recruiting

  •   Seek out volunteers for all areas of the worship ministry; always being open to new people
  •   Create and perpetuate a caring culture in dealing with volunteers
  •   Equip through regular teaching and coaching music volunteers; always seeking to raise up new leaders

Administration

  •   Maintain Music Library
  •   Help to develop a budget for the Worship and Music Ministry and to monitor the budget throughout the year
  •   Coordinates the purchase, lease and upkeep of any musical equipment or software/hardware for the Worship and Music Ministry
  •   Prioritizes and organizes workload to result in successful outcomes

Management

  •   Oversee the Worship & Music staff; conducting staff meetings as needed
  •   Delegate appropriate assignments and duties to staff members
  •   Evaluates staff performance giving feedback on a regular basis.
  •   Sets expectation of continuous improvement with his/her staff.

Other

  •   Performs other duties as assigned or requested by the pastors, Session or Worship Elder
  •   Attend Staff meetings and functions
  •   Attend InGathering and help to lead InGathering Table
  •   Be in regular communication and consultation with Worship Elder
  •   Edit, copy and upload Sunday message and service

 

B.   QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience-

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or related field is preferred
  • Two (2) years of worship experience is preferred
  • One (1) year of supervising staff is preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities-

  • Knowledge of typical Christian church worship and music ministry.
  • Knowledge of Biblical worship standards
  • Skills in operating current computer hardware and software programs
  • Skills strong in interpersonal relations.
  • Skills in operating Planning Center Online and Pro Presenter software
  • Ability to communicate with others through written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload for self and subordinates.
  • Ability to work and contribute to a collaborative style of interactions.
