Bell Shoals Baptist Church – Music & Worship Ministry

Position Title: Music Associate – Arranger (full-time)

Reports To: Pastor of Music and Worship
Department: Music and Worship

 

Summary of Position

 

Under the supervision of the Pastor of Music and Worship, responsible for:

  • Performing all tasks associated with establishing and maintaining an extremely high

    level of excellence musically.

  • Developing instrumental worship leaders.

  • Creating musically excellent arrangements, orchestrations, and original material for use in worship, with the intent that this music can also reach outside to other churches.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Write, arrange and orchestrate worship music

    1. Produce worship recordings/album projects

    2. Booking and recording session musicians

    3. Post production editing, mixing and mastering

    4. Weekly worship music as required

    5. Create high quality, professional performance sweeteners and click tracks

  2. Musical Director

    1. Lead the band and orchestra on Sunday mornings, i.e. talk back mic

    2. Prepare/Load and Trigger clicks and stems

  3. Administrate, organize, promote and lend creative and music expertise to the instrumental worship ministry. Direct or enlist leadership to make these units function and grow at a very high level. This includes:

    1. Worship Orchestra

    2. Worship Band

    3. Planning Center scheduling of band and orchestra

  4. Provide “high touch” ministry to the above mentioned groups

    1. Prospecting of new players

    2. Hospital visitation of band/instrumental participants

  5. Provide musical direction to the orchestra and band

    1. Preparation for weekly rehearsals

    2. Sunday morning warm-up rehearsals

    3. In addition to weekly responsibilities, orchestra concerts as directed

    4. Assist and attend trips

    5. Weekly coordination of music with Pastor of Music and Worship

    6. Assist with weekly praise team rehearsals (vocals)

  1. Maintain a high level of personal professional skills and professional relationships through:

    1. Private practice (specific instrument)

    2. Conducting

    3. New music review, study of books and other literature for instrumental

      programs and arranging

    4. Develop and maintain relationships with local musicians, music directors,

      professional musicians, etc.

    5. Involvement with professional music organizations

  2. In the absence of the Pastor of Music and Worship:

    1. Lead rehearsals as required

    2. Serve as worship leader as required

       

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Follower of Jesus Christ
  • College Graduate with degree in music, preferred

  • Music arranging and orchestrating experience

  • Large ensemble (vocal & instrumental) rehearsal experience

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Must passionately desire to reach and disciple others as followers of Jesus Christ

  • Must passionately desire to lead people in an understanding of worship

  • Must have high level leadership abilities

  • Must have a working knowledge of modern music principles and teaching

    methods/abilities

  • Must have a high level of understanding and working knowledge of DAWs and

    various plug-ins as well as MIDI skills

  • Must have high level skills in Finale (preferred) or Sibelius music creation software

    to create professional looking scores, instrumental parts, octavos/vocal parts

  • Must be able to create high quality, professional performance sweeteners and click

    tracks (Both for live use as well as on recordings)

  • Must be able to create stand-alone MIDI scores/recordings for background video

    beds, demos, etc.

  • High level of keyboard skills

  • Must be able to recruit and retain various volunteers to support instrumental music

    groups

  • Must have dependable administrative skills
  • Must be capable of learning and abiding by the personnel policies and procedures
  • Must have the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively deal with a diverse group

    of members, employees and visitors

  • Must be a self-starter and be able to perform responsibilities with little supervision

  • Must have professional maturity and good communication skills, both verbal and

    written

  • Must be able to deal effectively with sensitive and confidential information of a

    written/spoken nature

  • Must be able to handle moderate to high stress
