Job Title: Director of Children’s Ministry  – Avon Lake Campus


Purpose Statement:  The goal of the Director of Children’s Ministry  – Avon Lake Campus is part of a collaborative ministry team within a multi-site environment. In order to create impactful and meaningful ministry for children up to 6th grade, he/she will work together with the Sr. Director of Children’s Ministry and other campus directors while leading the children’s ministry at Church of the Open Door Avon Lake Campus, developing and raising up leaders and creating a environment where children will understand and desire to be more like Christ.  Specific focus area of this team member is Curriculum Shaping.


Reports to:  Sr. Director of Children’s Ministry




  1. Live committed to our description of Christlikeness as described in the six Core Christlike Characteristics and summarized by Loving God, Loving People and Living Surrendered.
  2. Live committed to our mission of “Leading people in the adventure of becoming like Christ” by personally practicing the 5B’s. 
  3. Lead Church of the Open Door Avon Lake Campus Children’s Ministry. Where you will be asked to raise-up and develop leaders.
  4. Write Curriculum for both Early Childhood and Elementary age children.
  5. Ability to “Think Orange”.  Our goal as a church is to be able to resource families to be the spiritual leaders of there families.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director of Children’s Ministry and Executive Pastor.



  1. Campus Leadership
    1. Communicate and coordinate with the Avon Lake volunteers and lay-leaders.
    2. Intentionally lead volunteers through empowering them to use their gifts and talents.
    3. Actively recruit and train new volunteers and leaders.
    4. Collaborate with Campus Pastor and other Campus departments for successfully integrated ministries.
  1. Weekend Campus Prep
    1. Manage all necessary media in room computers within Adventure World classes at the Avon lake Campus.
    2. Upload and update weekly playlist to computers for pre-service at Avon Lake
    3. Working with Resource Coordinator, ensure that rooms are stocked with necessary materials.
    4. Hang and prepare all materials, and posters that advertise the series or special event.
  1. Adventure Club Director / Event Coordinator
    1. Oversee the curriculum for the Wednesday Night programming.
    2. Distribute resource needs to the Resource Coordinator for Wednesday Night programming.
    3. Lead the Wednesday night program at Avon Lake Campus.
    4. Develop, train and recruit future Wednesday team leaders.
  1. Ensure Safety and Security of Children
    1. Ensure proper security protocols are in place to ensure security of Children’s ministry spaces during hours of activities – including but not limited to proper volunteer requirements
    2. Ensure all volunteers are properly vetted with background checks
    3. Ensure safety of children through physical controls of space and proper training of volunteers
  1. Curriculum Shaping
    1. The Avon Lake Campus Director will work on a collaborative team within the Children’s Ministry Department, each with their own focus areas of Elementary, Pre-school, Family and Worship,
    2. Using existing curriculum, shape and develop curriculum with a specific focus and aptitude for Elementary age children.  In a team development environment, receive direction in the areas of preschool age and family and incorporate in to final curriculum.
    3. Provide weekly all media associated with curriculum that is needed for a Sunday Morning children’s ministry to each Campus Director.
    4. Work with the Sr. Director to upload all curriculum to the website.  
    5. Work alongside the Sr. Director to help lead the Special Event Curriculum development team (Outreach ministry, VBS, Family Service, Camp, etc.)

  4. Shepherding skills (lovingly lead, coach and counsel with wisdom and discernment)
  5. Demonstrated ability to recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate volunteers

  7. In agreement with our doctrine, mission, and 5B methodology.



Commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Work Schedule:

Fulltime position at approximately 32-35 Hours (Sunday – Thursday).  The above responsibilities are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. The staff at Open Door is committed to team ministry that pursues excellence with an attitude of “whatever it takes to get the job done”.  Therefore, additional time may be required outside of regular work hours and normal schedules.
