  • 5-7+ years experience in a related field
  • Undergraduate degree in communication / marketing
  • Significant experience in branding is a plus
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Understanding of web and mobile technologies

 

SUMMARY

The Director of Communications + Marketing leads planning, strategy and analysis of Ward’s event and ministry promotions. This position serves as the passionate brand advocate, empowered to share all Ward is with the people who call Ward home and the families Ward exists to impact. This position takes ownership of the ways in which Ward goes to market, tells its story to the greater community and creates understanding of what Ward is about. The Director of Communications + Marketing develops and implements Ward’s annual plan for communication focused on events, outreach and connection. The individual in this position must be a dynamic communicator, effective team builder, optimistic visionary and champion for the people Ward aims to reach. Previous agency and / or corporate communications experience in a successful company is desired. The experience this individual brings with them should help take Ward’s communications and marketing to a higher level. The Director of Communications + Marketing crafts messaging and writes copy to set the tone for communication department projects. This position supervises and works closely with Ward’s Director of Design + Digital as the strategic, analytic and planning focused compliment to the Director of Design’s visual and design focused role.

PRIMARY ACTIONS

  • Manages budget for church communications
  • Works with senior leadership to guide and plan vision-driven communications
  • Works with worship team and services hosts to plan weekly in-service communications
  • Actively identifies programs and events with potential for maximum community outreach
  • Collaborates with event and program leads to understand desired outcomes and build communications to achieve them
  • Develops and executes brand building campaigns with the Director of Design + Digital
  • Develops systems to measure the effectiveness and outcomes of Ward's communications
  • Analyzes results and uses data to refine communication strategies
  • Guides Ward’s social media engagement
  • Advocates for a consistent, powerful and well positioned Ward Church brand
  • Writes copy and develops messaging for all channels
  • Engages advertising partners like Valassis for targeted media buys that support outreach initiatives 
  • Leads direction for Ward's annual report
  • Manages Ward's communications calendar
  • Sets project priorities and manages bandwidth of the communications department
  • Cultivates skilled volunteer contributions to communications by members and interns

GOALS

  • 60 days: Gain a comprehensive understanding of current communication challenges / opportunities. Provide an assessment of what’s working and what needs work. Identify areas for growth and summarize in a presentation to the Executive Pastor / management team.
  • 90 days: Based on discussion of the assessment with the Executive Pastor, develop three high impact goals for 2017-2018. This will include one short term goal (complete in 30 days), one medium term goal (complete in three months) and one long term goal (complete in 6-12 months).
