Compass Church has an immediate opening for a Worship Leader.

Compass Church is located in South Central Wisconsin with easy access to 3 major metropolitan cities (Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison). Dubbed the “City of Parks,” Janesville is a city of 65,000+ residents.  Janesville and the surrounding area offer loads of opportunity for hiking, biking, boating, fishing, or open-mic night at a local coffee shop. Everything you need can be found in Janesville with a recovering economy and quality way of life. 

Compass is a progressive and growing community. Nine years ago, the church built a beautiful 22,000 square foot building on 10.5 acres on the rapidly growing north east side of Janesville.  Plenty of classroom space, gymnasium, coffee shop and more make ministry accessible to the community.  You will join a dynamic pastor in a grace-filled environment. We are a Kingdom minded church that firmly believes in the transforming power of the Gospel.  We are in a rebuilding phase where outreach is a high priority.  Our vision is: Showing All of Janesville, the way back to God.

We are seeking a person (or couple) of high character and integrity who can thrive in a busy church! This individual (or couple), will oversee all of our worship ministry, as well as ministry to the worship team members. Compass’s worship service would be considered a blended worship style with lots of contemporary songs, as well as a hymns, classic choruses, Scripture readings. But we like our worship songs to be on the front edge of what is current: Vertical Church, Hillsong, Jesus Culture, Bethel, etc.  The job description could vary depending on the church’s needs and applicant’s gifts.

We are looking for a talented individual who can lead our congregation in a passionate, deep, worship experience.  We prefer guitar-led worship (but are open to keys).  Must be able to help develop the team and/or recruit other musicians. The ideal candidate is versed in a wide variety of music styles from contemporary to hymns and can put together worship services that draw the congregation into worship.  The candidate will stay on top of new and contemporary music and regularly introduce new music to the congregation. The candidate should be well versed in sound dynamics, sound equipment, acoustics.  Lighting background and stage design would be a plus. This person will work closely with the lead pastor to develop services that harmonize elements of worship with the Word (sermon).  This person will be responsible for scheduling special music, managing scheduling of musicians and worship leaders, as well as assisting other departments with their music needs.  He/she will strive for balance between the art of worship and the heart of worship.  Pursuit of musical excellence, with sincere praise.

Some general characteristics of the successful candidate would be:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a related field or proven experience in ministry
  • A personal vibrant and growing commitment to Jesus with a heart of Christ-like servant leadership
  • Ability to listen to as well as communicate with the leadership team and board; teachable and emotionally intelligent
  • Be able to develop and maintain working relationships with lead pastor, worship team, church
  • Be available, know how to have fun, know when enough is enough
  • Have diplomatic, productive and positive people skills; and the ability to handle conflict constructively and graciously
  • Capable of teaching/preaching the Bible in compelling and engaging ways
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and can communicate and invest in leaders to empower them to do the ministry
  • High energy and excellence in all you do; extremely self-motivated and a hard worker.
  • Must be able to transform big ideas into a tangible ministry
  • Must be tech-savvy and able to fully integrate video/audio
  • Must be a people-gatherer and lead others into Spirit-led lifestyle
  • Spirit-filled and Spirit-led during our services       

As a church restart, we are able to commit to a part time position stipend at $400 per month with the possibility of housing being provided as well.  This position could become full time in the future depending on the success of the ministry. The successful candidate (and/or spouse) will work at least part-time in the community to supplement the stipend.
