Child Care Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Under general supervision of director, provide developmental care and supervision to children enrolled in the Little Saints Daycare Center. Implement age appropriate curriculum for children; establish and maintain supportive relationships with children, parents and colleagues. Model appropriate child care practices for students and perform related work as required. 

SCOPE: 

Implements educational programs for children enrolled; schedules activities and programs, directs the work of assistants and monitors children’s developmental and educational progress.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITLES:

Plans, adapts and schedules age appropriate curriculum involving various activities to stimulate children’s cognitive skills, abilities and development.

Provides continuous supervision to children enrolled in center, ensures health and safety of children.

Maintains classroom and play areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; sets up room and area or various activities such as lunch, naps, games, etc.

Records daily observations of children’s behavior and activities; monitors behavioral patterns and develops assessment and profiles.

Schedules parent conferences to discuss children’s development and concerns; works with family to devise learning and development strategies as necessary.

Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records as well as appropriate confidential records.

Monitors children for signs of child abuse and reports incidents of suspected abuse to appropriate authorities.

ABILITY TO:

Implement a program based on sound principles of child development; interact positively with children and act as an appropriate adult role model.  Enforce and apply all laws, rules and regulations; read, understand and communicate effectively (written and oral). Give and follow written and oral instructions; exercise judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving problems; maintain accurate and detailed records; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Early childhood development and appropriate practices for infants, toddlers, and young children, nurturing, care giving and education of young children; concepts of curriculum development and implementation; principles of observation and assessment of young children; principles of parent communication and support.  Employee must have knowledge and ability to potty train toddlers and young children.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess a current CECPR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an Associate’s Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Two to three years documented experience caring for children under 13 years of age and who are not related to the caregiver within the third degree. Must be enthusiastic and constantly alert, anticipate and prevent problems, deal with disruptive children, and provide fair but firm discipline.  Should be mature, patient, understanding and articulate and have energy and physical stamina.  Skilled in music, art, drama and storytelling are also important.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
