Job Description:

Advent United Methodist Church, located in the Greenville, SC area, is a vibrant, missional church that believes in the importance of investing in the lives of youth and children. Advent UMC seeks an Assistant Director of Student Ministries who feels a passion for student ministry and a calling to serve in a student ministry with over 200 students involved through Sunday evening worship and life groups that meet on Sunday and throughout the week.

Position Title: Assistant Director of Student Ministry

Reports to:  Director of Student Ministry

Purpose: Assist Director of Student Ministry through a “hands on” approach in the spiritual formation and growth of Advent’s youth and the Student Ministries of the Church


Youth Ministry Assistant Qualifications:

  • Personal faith and commitment to Jesus Christ.  Support Advent and the United Methodist Church.
  • A sincere calling to youth ministry.
  • Interpersonal skills that allow for development of relationships with youth and their families.
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth while being sensitive and caring towards them.
  • Optimism, Enthusiasm, and Passion
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills including social media and video making.
  • Experience in youth ministry leadership preferred.


Youth Ministry Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director of Student Ministry in development of anchor Youth Ministry offerings of AUMC; including weekly large group ministry, small group Bible studies, missions for students & spiritual retreats with the primary responsibility for middle school ministry offerings
  • Participate in elevate each week – includes set up, serving as a leader, preparing and sharing the message on a monthly basis.
  • Work to help improve communications with youth, parents and adult leaders in order to keep everyone informed, engaged and involved.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of adult volunteers to work with Middle and High School age groups.
  • Availability and willingness to cultivate and maintain healthy personal relationships with Advent UMC Youth – primarily with Middle School youth
  • Under guidance of Director of Student Ministry, coordinate Sunday morning lifegroups (Sunday school)
  • Coordinate the Big Brother/Big Sister Ministry for Confirmation
  • Other duties as assigned.
