Job Description:

The Director of Worship Arts must have a passion for worship as a whole way of life directed toward the Kingdom of God. He/she will design creative worship experiences ushering the Calvary family into the presence of God. With a visible and contagious love for the Lord, this individual must have excellent relational and organizational strengths, musical training and experience. He/she will work with the entire Calvary body and, through the use of music and creative arts, contribute to helping individuals make or renew a commitment to Jesus Christ, respond to God’s love by serving others, and create a community of reconciliation and care. This individual will discover and develop the skills of members of the Calvary Church family who want to use their gifts and abilities through the worship arts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Give evidence of a deep personal commitment to Jesus Christ, maintaining a strong personal devotional life that includes regular Bible study and prayer.

2. Be able to compellingly articulate his/her personal faith and communicate Biblical truths.

3. Possess a rich sense of the nature of Christian worship and be sensitive and skilled in leading God’s gathered people into his presence with joy, reverence, and awe. 4. Possess leadership qualities including motivational skill, organization, teamwork, and creativity.

5. Express a desire to embrace and lead Calvary’s vision for loving our community.

6. Demonstrate skill and joy in a wide variety of musical styles.

7. Have musical training and talent to handle the musical needs of this position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Craft, prepare and lead weekly worship services.

2. Work with the ministry staff in weekly planning and coordination for worship services.

3. Train and empower praise teams and/or individuals to lead worship.

4. Direct adult choir, multiple ensembles, and ensure children’s regular participation in worship gatherings.

5. Coordinate instrumental ensembles for worship services, choir, and special events (includes: organist/pianist/instrumentalist schedule).

6. Be responsible for overseeing practices and performances for all musical ensembles, drama teams, soloists, dance groups or other fine arts from within the church.         Instrumental ensembles and accompanists should have music at least two weeks prior to services when teaching pastor has provided details for themes/focus 1-2         months in advance.

7. Coordinate special music/events when needed or requested by staff or church ministry.

8. Encourage Calvary to worship through the fine arts, including dance and drama.

9. Oversee/Support Audio/Visual Teams including Sound, Lighting, Projection, Visual Arts (decoration) and Video.

10. Facilitate Calvary’s partnership with Maple Avenue Ministries (and others) through combined worship gatherings.

11. Oversee the purchase of all music, and the acquisition of all budget items to fulfill the needs of the ongoing ministries.

12. Be responsible for good communication so that information on the website and bulletin are current and accurate.

13. Continue to help grow the Worship Arts Ministry in any direction where God has gifted us and is moving us.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

1. The Director of Worship and Music is directly accountable to the Senior Pastor.

2. He/she will receive support and advice from the Senior Pastor and the Governing Elders pertaining to job performance and day-to-day operations.

3. He/she will prepare an annual budget and approve budgeted expenditures for all areas of worship involving the Worship Arts.

4. He/she will participate in an annual performance review administrated by the Senior Pastor.

5. He/she will work with a Worship Arts Team and receive regular support from these key volunteer leaders.
