Job Announcement: Discipleship Ministries   Administrator


Buncombe Street United Methodist Church is located in downtown Greenville, SC. Since our beginnings in 1834, we have remained committed to scriptural holiness. Through an offering of wonderful programs of mission and outreach we work to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.


Position   Summary


The Discipleship Ministries Administrator is responsible for supporting the Discipleship Ministries of the church by the day-to-day logistical operations in a way that helps all staff (paid and volunteer) be exceptionally effective.  The position is 30 hours per week part-time position with the potential of becoming a full-time position with benefits.


Position   Responsibilities- Essential


  • Result #1: All youth ministry major events have been well publicized and organized. Their execution has left parents confident that their children have been faithfully and creatively nurtured. The marketing and communication of the ministry includes but is not limited to weekly parent emails, texts the website, monthly articles in Embrace and regular youth newsletters/calendars.
  • Result #2: Control documents have been put in place and distributed in a timely fashion for the youth ministry (including the Youth Directory, Volunteer Job Descriptions, the Youth Ministry Calendar, Calendar requests, Event and Trip Registration Forms, and Leaders Directory). Compliance documents have been up-to-dated and distributed to all involved parties (copyright licensing, background checks on volunteers and staff, safe sanctuaries, medical release forms, liability etc.).
  • Result #3: The “in-between the cracks” needs of the youth ministry have been handled in a professional and timely manner (having been distributed to other staff and volunteers or handled by the Youth Director). These needs included at least: bulletin boards, photography, newsletters, bulletin and Sunday school announcements, forms and registrations, database and website.
  • Result #5: Event notebooks have been completed for each youth ministry major event, and each notebook has been updated after that event was completed.
  • Result #6: All first-time visitors have been recorded in the youth database. A follow up process has been followed with each first-time visitor that included youth staff and volunteers. They have also interfaced with the Director of Evangelism and Membership to register the whole family with the church.
  • Result #7: Troubleshooting for the youth ministry has taken place in a way that honored the concerns of those who brought them, respected the efforts of the staff and volunteers and offered timely, creative solutions to problems.
  • Result #8: The contact work of the youth ministry staff and youth ministry volunteers has been supported by supplying weekly lists of guests, MIA and birthdays of students with contact information for each student.
  • Result #9: The Discipleship Ministries Administrator has ensured the logistical details of Sunday school and Sunday night small groups have been in place each week including the coordination of volunteers to provide many of behind-the-scenes details. These included: Attendance tracking, Curriculum and supplies, Church calendar reservation, Facility reservations, In-House meal recruitment.
  • Result #10: The Youth Ministry Administrator has worked alongside the major event coordinators and youth staff when planning events and retreats and has taken responsibility for logistics of the event including but not limited to: facility reservation, transportation, lodging, food coordination and other logistics determined by the event.
  • Result #11: The youth ministry database has been maintained with accurate information.
  • Result #12: Administrator of Confirmation including: compose letters to parents; communicate with mentors; compose calendar and keep it; compose handbooks for confirmands; paperwork and logistics for fall and spring retreats; bulletins and paperwork for four special Confirmation services; mid-year assessments and year-end reviews; schedule acolyte and crucifer training.
  • Result #13: While assisting youth ministry and confirmation is main role, some hours each week will be given assisting data base, social media, and website communication for various adult ministries.
