SENIOR PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

The Senior Pastor of The Ridge is responsible for assisting the Council of Elders in overseeing the life and direction of the church. With God’s help, he will serve as the chief visionary to lead the church forward in fulfilling God’s purpose. Guided by the Holy Spirit, The Ridge vision and The Ridge by-laws, he will be expected to lead The Ridge with a servant attitude and a shepherd’s heart. The Senior Pastor will offer pastoral leadership to the body of believers of The Ridge as a Spirit-led shepherd having integrity of character and vision to be a disciple-maker.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. SHEPHERD
  2. Has a history of preaching the Word in a manner that honors Holy Scripture and calls people to action
  3. Leads with a servant’s attitude and a strong shepherd’s heart
  4. Possesses and exhibits a love for people of all ages and backgrounds
  5. Has a passion for the lost and a heart for discipleship
  6. Shows evidence of a personal dynamic faith including a vibrant prayer life

 

  1. INTEGRITY OF CHARACTER
  2. Meets and evidences the biblical requirements of an elder and church leader as documented in 1 Timothy 2 and Titus 1
  3. Possesses the experience and ability to confront and resolve conflict in a healthy, biblical manner and responds with humility when confronted
  4. Exhibits a passion for God and evidence of a growing relationship with Christ
  5. Has a desire to search the Scriptures and applies biblical truth
  6. Believes in and models transparency and a willingness to be broken

 

  1. COMMUNICATOR
  2. Possesses the experience and ability to preach in a relevant teaching style and is able to relate to people of varied means, walks of life and differing levels of spiritual maturity
  3. Exhibits the desire and ability to respond to the requests of others in a timely fashion and follows through on plans of action
  4. Ability to motivate the staff, ministry leaders and church body to live according to the Word of God.
  5. Promotes an atmosphere of unity and cooperation at the Ridge and ensures that the systems, practices and policies of the church responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities
  6. Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills including use of current technology

 

  1. ADMINISTRATOR
  2. Possesses the skills, knowledge and credentials to satisfy the requirements of the Missionary Church
  3. Possesses and exhibits a tenacious heart able and willing to listen to God and His people
  4. Recognizes, appreciates and activates the diverse gifts God has given to individuals and surrounds himself with strong leaders whose gifts enhance and compliment his own
  5. Handles ministry and personal finances with biblical wisdom and responsibility
  6. Able to manage and lead a team that oversees church operations, including office administration and facilities

 

 

RESPONSIBLIITIES

 

  1. LEADERSHIP
  2. Leads an ongoing ministry of developing disciples of Jesus Christ
  3. Develops, trains, disciples and equips leaders for ministry through teaching, personal modeling, mentoring, and program development and implementation
  4. Provides spiritual leadership to the staff and is responsible for working with all ministry leaders to coordinate staff and leadership meetings
  5. Provides spiritual leadership to the Elders and is accountable with the chairman of the Council of Elders for coordination of annual congregational meetings
  6. Participates in other ministry opportunities outside of the local church upon mutual agreement with the Council of Elders
  7. In conjunction with the Council of Elders, evaluates the church staff on an annual basis

 

  1. PREACHING
  2. Prepares and preaches biblically-based, life-applicable messages on a weekly basis and carries out other teaching/preaching responsibilities as mutually agreed upon by the Council of Elders and himself
  3. Preaching supports the established vision and goals. A preaching rotation schedule is encouraged to facilitate leadership development and to allow for personal rest and spiritual nourishment
  4. Responsible to communicate with the Worship Director any upcoming sermon series information and special events and works with the worship staff to plan and coordinate all church services
  5. Continually challenges the congregation to live out their faith lovingly and creates an environment conducive to Holy Spirit transformation and growth for all who attend

 

  1. VISION CASTING
  2. Together with the Elders, he is visionary about the church’s growth and direction, and has the primary responsibility for casting the vision to leadership and the congregation
  3. With the Council of Elders, recommends, supports and implements actions that fulfill the vision and mission of The Ridge

 

  1. PERSONAL CARE
  2. In cooperation with the Elders, is available to members and attenders of The Ridge for spiritual leadership and pastoral care. This includes, but is not be limited to:  hospital and home visitation, biblical guidance and counseling, pre-marital instruction, conducting marriages, funerals and baptisms

 

  1. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
  2. Pursues avenues of equipping for continued personal and professional development
  3. Keeps abreast of current developments in the ministry through reading, seminars, conferences and networking, with responsibility for formal communication to church leadership
  4. Responsible for personal spiritual renewal, scheduling regular retreats for spiritual reflection, study and prayer for vision and direction
