MIDDLE SCHOOL DIRECTOR

 

Overview

Lead and coordinate all energy and effort that will result in a discerning and spirit-filled ministry environment for all middle school students.  Cast the vision that will leverage opportunities by combining youth development and age-appropriate curriculum creating a comprehensive strategy for each student’s life to help them find and follow Jesus.   

Key Responsibilities

  • Programming
  • Oversee and lead the middle school programming
  • Plan and produce weekly middle school services
  • Train leaders and staff on leadership issues, Orange strategy, Lead Small culture and personal and professional growth
  • Oversee middle school Social Media – Instagram and Facebook
  • Effectively communicate vision for middle school ministry to church staff, parents, students and the body at large
  • Organize, plan and execute middle school events (MS Camp, Outreach events and Discipleship times)
  • Create excellent and engaging environments for both students and volunteers
  • Monitor middle school budget
  • Manage Planning Center Online for all middle school programming
  • Network with other middle school Directors
  • Volunteer Coordination/Staffing
  • Oversee, develop and lead middle school leaders, focusing on the small group leaders and the Teaching Team
  • Encourage, empower and equip small group leaders through training and relationship
  • Recruit and orient new leaders who are passionate about middle school students
  • Plan volunteer appreciation events quarterly
  • Work with Teaching Team to develop their craft through critique and feedback
  • Recruit, coordinate, grow, schedule and develop middle school special teams: Host Team, Teaching Team, Worship Leaders and Small Group Leaders
  • Maintain and oversee the teaching calendar
  • Collaboration with Family Life Team
  • Contribute to work with the Family Life Team
  • Participate in weekly meetings and share ideas
  • Attend conferences and any other ministry education classes to continually learn and grow in ministry
  • Work alongside Children’s Ministry, High School Ministry and parents to transition students into and out of the middle school ministry successfully
  • Special Events
  • Plan and lead a middle school-specific missions trip each summer
  • Plan and execute the 5th grade transition
  • Plan and execute the 8th grade graduation and promotion
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Required Skills 

  • A heart for the local church, a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion to help others find and follow Jesus
  • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Degree in  Education, Religious studies or Youth Ministry preferred and a minimum of  3+ years experience in Student Ministries
  • Demonstrable competency in Microsoft Office Products
  • Proven ability to take projects from beginning to end
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects
  • Action-oriented and displays focus, passion and initiative.  Takes appropriate action when something needs to be done
  • Relates well to all kinds of people, builds effective relationships, communicates effectively both interpersonally and corporately
  • Organized, creative thinker and highly productive, working in a fast-paced environment
  • Committed to improvement, seeks constructive criticism, understands strengths and weaknesses
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
