Position Snapshot//Job Overview

The Teaching Pastor supports the mission of Westwind through partnership with the Westwind Elders and Pastoral Staff in the ministry of preaching God’s Word and the administration and leadership of the ministry areas of Celebrate (worship, salvation, baptism, transformational story), Connect (life groups, discipleship groups, care groups), and Contribute (Giving, Serving, Local and Global Outreach).

 

What You’ll Lead//Roles and Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the elders and pastoral staff, share in the communication of a strategic vision for ministry that is consistent with the mission and core values of Westwind Church.
  • Responsible for a minimum of 45-50% of preaching, in partnership with pastoral preaching team.
  • Implement a strategic philosophy of ministry in the areas of ministry that are appointed to this position that align with the Celebrate, Connect, Contribute ministry strategy.
  • Responsible for oversight, discipleship, management and mentoring of church staff.
  • Responsible for day to day function of church organization in appointed ministry areas.
  • Partner with pastoral staff and elders in the development of an annual ministry and budget strategies.

 

What You’ll Do//A Week in the Life of the Teaching pastor

  • Meet with the Pastoral Staff
  • Meet with Elder Team
  • Preaching/Teaching preparation and planning
  • Meet with the Westwind Staff for oversight and development of leadership and ministry
  • Meet with Westwind Ministry All Staff
  • Shepherd and care for Westwind Church family
  • Shepherd, develop and inspire volunteers
  • Ministry administration, development and planning
  • Ministry planning and administration for upcoming programs and events

 

What We Expect//Qualifications

Spiritual

  • Meets the requirements of a biblical Elder (I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9). 
  • Has a shepherd's heart and a desire to lead consistent with 1Peter 5:1-5 
  • Teachable spirit with demonstrated accountability to others relative to spiritual and personal life 

Leadership

  • 3-5 years of preaching/teaching experience
  • 8+ years of relevant leadership experience with staff, volunteers and executing ministry strategies
  • Must be highly relational, creative, organized, and administrative
  • Knowledge and experience in problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to operate in a team environment, often working cross-functionally with other teams 
  • Must exhibit an earnest desire to see lost people come to a relationship with Jesus, continually developing the ability to display this love in action

Education

  • Education Required: Bachelors Degree: Preferred Ministry, Biblical or Pastoral Studies. 
  • Education preferred: Advanced degree, seminary training, or equivalent combination of education and experience (typically 8+ years)
