Based in Lee's Summit, MO, Journey Kids (the children's ministry of Abundant Life) is committed to this mission through dynamic, fun, relational, Bible based programs and events where we have an average Sunday attendance of over 900 kids.  

We are searching for an experienced leader who loves Jesus and loves kids to oversee our ministry to our infant, toddlers and preschool ministries.  Abundant Life is a church that has not stopped growing spiritually and numerically for over 20 years and is an awesome place to work!

General Description

To oversee the Early Years (Journey Kids) ministry department of Abundant Life Church under the supervision of the Children’s Pastor



  • At least 3 years professional experience working in Early Years / Children’s Ministry
  • A College Degree in a related field is preferred
  • Should have a firm understanding of how to manage different aspects of children’s  ministry, with particular skills and experience in working in Early Years church ministry 
  • An understanding of the Orange curriculum and philosophy relating to Early Years Ministry

  • Oversee all aspects of the Early Years Ministry of Abundant Life
  • Provide organizational structure, strategic planning, and direction for the Early Education ministry
  • Ensure that all early childhood curriculum and teachings are in line with both the Bible and the beliefs and teachings of Abundant Life
  • Supervise and lead the Infant Ministry Coordinator
  • Supervise and lead the Toddler Ministry Coordinator
  • Supervise and lead the Preschool Coordinator
  • Oversee recruitment and retention of all Early Years ministry volunteers
  • Assist with the scheduling and recruiting of volunteers for Sunday mornings and evenings, Wednesday nights, and special events
  • As a leader of leaders, establish systems to support, celebrate and develop leaders by loving, caring for, and discipling the key members of the teams you lead
  • Ensure all early years supplies and resources are kept up to date
  • Attend Children’s Ministry staff meetings
  • Attend Abundant Life all staff meetings and training
  • Oversee the laundry, tidy and take home project teams
  • Oversee Journey Jnr. Playgroup
  • Order, develop, and distribute preschool curriculum
  • Oversee the development and distribution of Early Years curriculum each month
  • Update Early Years news for the wider children’s ministry communication and social media
  • Coordinate Parent Partnership events
  • Plan, submit, and maintain a balanced budget for Early Years ministry
  • Coordinate summer outreach events for preschoolers, including VBS
  • Assist with annual children’s ministry volunteer appreciation event
  • Plan and carry out necessary administrative functions including but not limited to: correspondence, filing, phone calls, scheduling, and coordination of mailings
  • Assist with fussy or disruptive children
  • Lead model teaching sessions as required and provide ongoing training in Early Years ministry
  • Oversee the organization, appearance, and cleanliness of all early childhood rooms
  • Communicate any cleaning or repair issues to the Facilities Director
  • Ensure incident reports are completed and followed up correctly
  • Ensure all children’s ministry policies and procedures are communicated and adhered to
  • Assist the Children’s Pastor in overseeing special events and the overall children’s ministry of Abundant Life
