Job Description:

Overview: The Director of Small Groups is responsible to provide leadership to help grow, shepherd, strengthen, and multiply the number of healthy small groups in The District Church.


Supervisor:  Pastor of Spiritual Care


Requirements and Detailed Responsibilities

  • Oversee small groups by recruiting hosts, leaders, and coaches; planning and implementing trainings; and writing small group discussion guides

  • Work toward the health and multiplication of small groups; creating proper metrics to measure both health and multiplication. About 50 groups to manage.

  • Recruit and shepherd small group coaches. About 12 coaches to manage.

  • Create a plan to recruit more male leaders and male only small groups. About 5 men’s groups to manage.

  • Ensure successful assimilation systems of new members and new Christians (post-baptism) into small groups.

  • Provide leadership to on-going TDC Discipleship Courses – Marriage, Finances, Seekers

    • Ensure leaders for Why God course reaching approx. 20+ people

    • Ensure Learning to Live Class is offered every semester

    • Ensure Financial Peace University continues to be offered each semester

  • Actively manages all aspects of Small Group promotional materials, launches, communications, curriculum and leader resources

  • Stays current on emerging trends in Small Group ministry through training and coaching

  • Meets with church members as requested for spiritual counsel approx. 3 times per week


Pastoral Team Support

  • Act as the primary link between small groups and the pastoral team

  • Attend pastoral team meetings

  • Participate in Pastor Sermon calls to help prepare for small group guides or sermons


Management & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Help keep small group excel sheets up to date with accurate and current information

  • Lead manager of Discipleship Budget (in coordination with Amy)

  • Manage baptism as the coordinator of candidates, communication, set-up/tear-down, and production

  • Actively engaging in an effective personal ministry to the church through teaching groups or classes and remaining accessible to people through individual appointments.

  • Consistently looks for opportunities to share Christ and encourage believers to mature in Christ.

  • Liaises and meets with ministry team leaders and pastors to ensure successful execution of vision.
