Job purpose 

The Associate Director of Children Ministry is responsible for providing pastoral and strategic leadership in support of BWOC’s vision for the Children Ministry. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Creatively engages with children and their families and helps them be and make disciples for Jesus Christ.
  • Engages with parents to equip them as the primary moral and spiritual leaders of their children through various programs and events.
  • Plans, evaluates, and executes in coordination with the administration’s new or existing strategies and curriculum, to help transform children into followers of Christ.
  • Plans and/or implements age appropriate activities that promote fellowship, fun, faith, deepening discipleship, and spiritual growth and development.
  • Develops and implements programs to disciple, connect, and reach out to our children and their friends through Sunday, mid-week, summer programs and special services, such as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Easter and other church-wide events.
  • Children ministry involvement in Community Outreach Activities.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training and discipleship of youth and adult volunteers involved in Children’s Ministry.
  • Maintains scheduled office hours as directed by the Executive Director of Administration and Pastor Chrys Johnson for accessibility to children, parents, staff and the congregation.
  • Assists in mentoring and leadership development for Children Ministry volunteers.
  • Assists in performance evaluations for Children Ministry volunteers.
  • Assists in developing the Children Ministry budget to ensure good stewardship and proper allocation of financial resources.
  • Executes Children Ministry activities within the annual allotted budget.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Administration.

  • Minimum of an Associate Degree and ministry experience.
  • Compatibility with the theology, practices, and policies of BWOC.
  • Ability to give strategic leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Effectively teach God’s Word to children.
  • Supervise and mentor volunteers and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Personal professional presentation at all times.
  • Must be a strategic visionary, able to cast vision and inspire people about the value and importance of children’s ministry.
  • Must be a skillful team builder, able to recruit, encourage, inspire, and train volunteers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate the message of Jesus in innovative and creative ways.
  • Be flexible, adaptable, and able to handle pressure with a cool and calm spirit and genuine smile
  • Computer literate
  • Administratively competent to manage issues of safety, scheduling, programming, handling of equipment and materials, parent’s questions, greeting new families, and follow up.
  • Have a passion for children, families, and volunteers.
