SUMMARY:

 

The Children’s Ministry Pastor will fulfill the responsibilities of minister in the spirit of I Timothy 3:2-7. The Minister also is expected to live in harmony with the general and special rules as stated in the Manual: Church of the Nazarene. Employment shall be for a term of one year that is renewable upon recommendation of the Senior Pastor at the beginning of each fiscal year. The Children’s Ministry Pastor shepherds, coordinates, and supervises birth – sixth grade.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Children
o Shepherds, coordinates and supervises either directly or indirectly all programs, activities and meetings for the entire children’s ministry.
o Is “into the lives” of families and children in any method suggested by the creativity of the Children’s Ministry Pastor.
o Enhances the spiritual, social, developmental, and leadership growth of children by providing opportunities for involvement in ministry.
o Encourages, facilitates, and supports the involvement of the children in local and district events.
o Provides activities and/or ministry opportunities throughout the year that involve both children and families.

 

Parents/Guardians of Children
o Communicates often, clearly, and creatively.
o Responds timely to inquiries from parents/guardians concerning their child’s personal or ministry need.
o Communicates concerns to parents/guardians relative to their child.
o Encourages the importance of partnership and involvement of parents/guardians in Children’s ministry.
o Schedules quarterly parent/guardian meetings for the purpose of communicating Children’s ministry plans, mission, vision, dialogue, and Children’s ministry needs.

 

Other Responsibilities
o Shepherds children in ways to enhance his/her spiritual development
o Recruits, trains, motivates and supervises leaders for all Children’s ministries; Sunday school, weekly ministry gatherings, events, and activities.
o Oversee Children’s Ministry Administrative Assistant, Nursery Director, Preschool Director, Volunteer Director and the Preteen Director. (As assigned)
o Develops and submits an annual departmental budget.

 

RELATIONSHIPS INSIDE THE ENTITY
The Children’s Ministry Pastor functions as a member of the ministerial staff at Denver First Church and, as such, will be expected to attend regular scheduled staff meetings and to cultivate positive, supportive, and helpful relationships with the other staff members. The Children’s Ministry Pastor assumes the fulfillment of children’s ministries through effective leadership of paid administrative assistant and lay leaders. The Children’s Ministries Pastor will be required to attend Board meetings when requested.

 

RELATIONSHIPS OUTSIDE THE ENTITY
The Children’s Ministries Pastor shall serve as an ambassador of Denver First Church through church, denominational, community, and para-church associations as requested by the Executive Pastor of Ministry and Senior Pastor.

OTHER
One of the most important aspects of this position is spiritual character and integrity. The Children’s Ministry Pastor is expected to exhibit these qualities in the Minister’s everyday lifestyle. The Minister assumes the role of a mentor to each individual in the children’s ministry community by demonstrating the dynamics of a Christian walk. The Children’s Ministry Pastor acknowledges the responsibility to act in the best interest of Denver First Church at all times by doing those things which maximize the impact of its stated philosophy and which ultimately enables Denver First Church to accomplish its objective; namely, “To confront every man, woman, boy and girl in Metropolitan Denver with the claims of the Gospel.” The Children’s Ministry Pastor is expected to conduct the Minister’s private and public life in a manner, which will not embarrass the church. The Minister is also expected to live in harmony with the general and special rules as stated in the Manual: Church of the Nazarene.
