Benton Bible Church Senior Pastor Position Description    

 

Purpose:  To foster and oversee the spiritual growth and effectiveness of leaders, members and attendees of Benton Bible Church through preaching, teaching, equipping, evangelism, and visitation.

  3. Have a love for God and a desire to shepherd his people. 
  4. Have a growing relationship with God. 
  5. Have a continual desire to grow professionally. 
  6. Be self-controlled, respectable, and hospitable. 
  7. Desire to be visible and active in the Community conveying a positive and professional attitude regarding Benton Bible Church.   

 

Personal Strengths:

  1. Have the spiritual gift of Preaching and Teaching. 
  2. Have the spiritual gift of Shepherding. 

10. Have the spiritual gift of Evangelism. 

11. Ability to equip and support God’s people for ministry

Organizational Requirements:

  1. Have a thorough understanding of and be in full agreement with the Statements of Faith and doctrines of the Primitive Methodist Denomination.

  3. Prefer  a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited evangelical seminary but not required.

Supervisory Controls:

          Direct supervision is the responsibility of the Quarterly Conference. in terms of ministry objectives, priorities, and deadlines.  Pastor receives general direction from the congregation through the Pastoral Relations Committee.

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. 1.     Pulpit Ministry (suggested 40%)

Serve as the primary preacher, preaching and teaching the word of God for the edification, instruction, discipline and spiritual growth of the local body.

Plan and Oversee Sunday morning worship service.

Plan and Oversee special services and weekly prayer meetings. 

Provide the unsaved opportunity to know Christ personally through preaching, teaching and evangelism.

Maintain disciplined hours in order to prepare weekly sermons.

 

  1. 2.     Pastoral Care Ministry (suggested 30%)

Visit people in the congregation in their homes, in the hospital and where they work

Counsel members and attendees in the church in crisis situations and on-going needs.  If unable to counsel refer to competent counselors. 

Plan, Lead, oversee outreach to the unsaved in the community and encourage them to attend church.

Take calls at home from church members.

Perform funerals and weddings

Be present during hours the church building is open to the public for Thrift Store, Coffee House, Food Pantry and other events hosted by the church.

 

  1. 3.     Administrative Ministry (suggested 5%)
  • Coordinate the daily operation of the church.
  • Oversee the pastoral staff.
  • Meet regularly with the Station Steward and Pastoral Relations Committee
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastoral Relations Committee.

 

  1. 4.     Leadership Ministry (suggested 15%)

Responsible for developing a vision with measurable goals for all current and new ministries including outreach. 

Provide support for the world-wide mission of the church by prayer and exposition of relevant Bible teaching.

Meet with other area pastors-ministerial. 

Attend and run weekly staff meetings.

Attend and run Quarterly Conference (meeting of all ministry leaders)

 

  1. 5.     Prayer and Bible Ministry (suggested 10%)

Organize periodic prayer and/or revival services.

 

Compensation;

Salary and benefits will be consummate with academic and ministry experience.

Salary;$40 -$60,000 annually which includes housing allowance, insurance, auto expense.
