Student Ministry Coordinator

 

Reports to:

Associate Pastor of Discipleship

 

Work Hours:

The Student Ministry Coordinator is expected to be onsite for all Student Ministry activities including: Sunday / Wednesday activities, weekly staff meetings, and special events.  Coordinators are expected to be in place at least 15 minutes before the arrival of students/volunteers, and will typically work up to 20 hours per week.

 

General Summary:

The Student Ministry Coordinator will support church ministry vision by planning and implementing the student ministries of FBCLS.  Student ministries of FBCLS include learners in 6th grade through College and Career.

 

Essential Job Functions:

1.     Student Discipleship

?     Oversee Sunday School, Small Group, and Wednesday night student ministries of the church.

?     Promote discipleship in the church and in the community.

?     Work with the Associate Pastor of Discipleship to select appropriate curriculum for student discipleship.

?     Build supportive relationships with students and their families through regular communication.

?     Communicate the needs and concerns of the students and their families with the Associate Pastor of Discipleship.

?     Mentor and develop student peer ministry.

?     Supervise Wednesday / Sunday activity leaders.

?     Provide opportunities for students to share their testimony and witness to others.

 

2.     Special Events

?     Oversee the planning, promotion, and execution of student ministry special events with the Student Ministry Team, such as Summer and Winter Retreats, Mission trips, Student Ministry outings, and other events.

?     Plan and oversee any fundraising activities for student ministry in accordance with church policy.

?     Empower students to participate in other ministries of the church.such as Vacation Bible School, Easter egg hunts, TrunkFest, and other events.

 

 

3.     Student Ministry Team and Leadership

?     Conduct monthly Student Ministry Team meetings.

?     Communicate regularly with student ministry leaders.

?     Work with the Associate Pastor of Discipleship to conduct training sessions as needed.

?     Mentor and recruit emerging student ministry leaders.

?     Ensure classroom as appropriately staffed 15 minutes prior to all student ministry activities.

 

4.     Administrative and Safety

?     Coordinate the student ministry calendar and emphasis of the church as scheduled through the Church Council.

?     Work with the Associate Pastor of Discipleship to develop vision for the Student Ministries of FBCLS.

?     Ensure that ministry teams, leaders, and students follow church policies and procedures.

?     Submit attendance records for student ministry activities.

?     Supervise maintenance of student facilities and equipment.

?     Complete a biannual performance self-evaluation. 

?     Ensure that all security procedures are followed and that staff/volunteer background checks are up to date.

?     Submit requests for necessary curriculum, equipment, supplies, and space needed for students in all ministry activities.

?     Work with the Associate Pastor of Discipleship, ministry teams, leaders, and the Stewardship Committee to develop a budget for the Student Ministry.

 

5.     Complete other duties as assigned by the Associate Pastor of Discipleship or the Senior Pastor.

 

Specific Skills Required:

The ideal candidate must:

?     Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

?     Be called of God to serve in student ministries of FBCLS.

?     Abide by the Baptist Faith and Message in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of FBCLS.

?     Be an excellent communicator who is able to utilize a variety of communication modes to reach a diverse group of students and their families.

?     Be able to develop positive and productive relationships with church staff and volunteers.

?     Be able to maintain confidentiality when working with students and their families.

?     Have a good working knowledge of church facilities, computer systems, functions, organizations, and ministries.

?     Maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.

?     Have good organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to quickly adapt to change.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

The candidate should have:

?     A High School diploma along with some undergraduate or vocational training, ideally a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent.

?     Experience leading and teaching students in grades 6 – 12.

?     Experience training and supervising workers/volunteers.
