First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, NC is offering a tremendous opportunity to serve on staff at one of the most dynamic churches in the nation. FBCJAX over the past eight years has experienced rapid growth; growing from 950 to 3,500 people now on two campuses.

We are a young church with a rich history located in the youngest city in America, Jacksonville, NC. Jacksonville is home to the largest Marine Corp Bases located on the east coast, only 25 miles from the beautiful beaches and coastline of North Carolina.

We are looking for a full time Discipleship & Missions Pastor who will provide leadership, oversight and direction to the discipleship and missions ministries of FBC Jax under direct supervision by the Senior Pastor. We are looking for a staff pastor who will champion the vision of “glorifying God by loving all people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.”

The ideal candidate will be a high capacity leader who is able to work well in a fast paced, transient culture. This position requires a minimum of 10 years ministry experience with a proven track record of effective leadership, judgement and character. Masters level degree or M.Div is desired. The Discipleship and Missions Pastor will work to create healthy environments where people are discipled and released to fulfill the mission and values of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville. The DM Pastor will serve in direct report to the Senior Pastor. Time Commitment: • Full Time. • Whatever it takes to get the job done! Qualifications and Skills Required: • Fulfill the character qualification of a biblical elder/pastor as taught in the Scriptures. • Commitment to FBC’s philosophy of ministry and the mission of - “Glorifying God by loving all people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.” • Commitment to FBC’s 3 Great Loves: Loving God, Loving Each Other, Loving Our World, as well as our doctrinal statement. • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to the overall mission of First Baptist Jacksonville. This person must be able to embody and reproduce the DNA of FBC into every aspect of our discipleship and missions system. • Is a high-capacity leader with strong leadership, communication, equipping and team building skills. • Humble, patient, team spirited, and committed to creating a healthy and vibrant work culture that “Loves God, Loves Each Other and Loves Our World.” • Possesses a strong work ethic and initiative. Has the ability to creatively use the resources at hand in accomplishing goals established by the Senior Pastor. Job Description: Discipleship - oversee, develop, improve and champion the discipleship system of FBC Jacksonville so that the mission is supported and people are growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ through the Word of God and Biblical community. Oversee all Discipleship experiences including Life Groups, Support Groups, Ministry Groups, *Growth Track and *Leadership Track. Maintaining at all times the commitment to making disciples in biblical relationships. (*not yet established) Evaluate and Advise both church and staff on available discipleship materials maintaining doctrinal purity and missional alignment in curriculum. Serves as an Executive level pastor on the Pastoral Leadership Team. Thus advises the Senior Pastor and team on all matters associated to discipleship and missions. Provides general oversight and management for all Groups, Missions and Connections staff.
Oversee, develop and champion connection to the “Next Steps” available for an individual to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ: First Step, Baptism, Life Group, Serve Teams, Growth Track, Leadership Track, Giving, and Missions. Oversee’s the health and growth of the leadership pipeline for Life Groups: (Group member — Apprentice — Life Group Leader - Life Group Coach - Staff — Pastors) Missions - oversee, develop, improve and champion the strategic outreach system of FBC Jacksonville. Missions is defined as all the ways FBCJAX invests in reaching the spiritually lost and loving all people into a growing relationships with Jesus Christ: Locally, Nationally, Globally. Consistently communicates a passionate vision for Discipleship and Missions while creating opportunity for people to be disciples who live missional lives. Mobilize and train short-term, mid-term, and long term missionaries from FBCJax. This will include overseeing training for trip leaders, the training of teams, setting dates, communicating trip information to the church, coordinating with partners, overseeing fundraising and the financial aspects of the trips, and offering care for members during re-entry after the trip. Support, care, and maintain strong connection between our mission partners and our church body. Equip and inspire FBCJAX members in developing a deep awareness of personal evangelism and missions. Work to create a climate in which God’s leading into missions can be heard, confirmed and obeyed. This should include equipping in evangelism and missions as a part of both growth track and leadership track courses. Serves in general pastoral functions: pastoral care, counseling, preaching, teaching, weddings, funerals, and any other duties as needed. Assist in support of weekend worship experiences including being available for preaching, prayer, assisting in announcements or general support as needed.
